Title: FFP Coilovers
Post by: tyroelite on March 08, 2004, 12:37:47 AM
What did you guys do to keep the strut rod from turning while tightening down the nut on top to flatten out the lock washer?

In the past when mounting the strut mounts on the struts I've used an impact gun to get the center nut on the strut.

Well if I remember right there is an allen on the top of the strut shaft. Use the proper W-Body tool and it has an open top wrench to get the nut and the allen to hold the sturt top... 8)

w-body tool for rear suspension?? i was not aware of this... oh well, i got it all installed now, just used some vice grips (robo grips) to hold the strut and turned it with a wrench.

come to think of it... no, there is no sort of allen on top of the strut shaft.  You must be refering to the front suspension??   FFP at this point only has coilovers for the back, so thats what i was working on.

It's not an allen wrench, the top of the shaft is hex shaped, so a socket will fit on it.  I used a ratchet and a combination wrench to tighten it.  (Vice grips will tear up the shaft and damage the seals in a high bounce/jounce situation.)

it is rear suspension.... The top of the strut isn't hex shaped at all... it is kind of a squared off circle.  Also, the back doesn't have any seal to worry about.   I put a vice on the top of the strut and below it used an adjustable wrenche to turn the nut down tight.

The front aren't available yet from FFP so it is still stock ride height.
