Hello this is my first post on the board. I just less than 72 hours ago picked up an 89 Turbo Grand Prix. I have been a member of Beretta.net for over 2 years now and been to 3 "Berettafests". But I come across this TGP on a local dealer lot and traded him my 92 GT plus a small amount of cash. I love the car so far and I am very impressed with how many options it has. I do know quite a bit about the cars, my buddy has a 6000 AWD and another one in our group has an STE 5spd non turbo.
I still have one Beretta and that is a 94 Z26 that I put 3400v6 into out of a Grand Am. I had the heads and intakes done by streetarsenal.com and ended up pulling a 15.2 which is down from my stock 16.7
So I am interested in any local gatherings or clubs in the Central IL or US region. I would really like to meet up with some other TGP owners and learn from them. I already took my car to the track in St. Louis friday night just one day after getting it. I was not impressed by my times but I know the power is there. My best time was a 16.197@84.99mph, which seems really slow to me for these cars. I spooled the turbo up to what looked about 7 or 8psi. When looking through the service records it looks like the car has only been driven maybe 3,000 miles or so in the year or year and half. So in the next couple weeks I'm gonna get underneath the hood and replace plugs and wires and maybe some sensors to help it out. Also, I heard these cars are notorius for exhaust manifold leaks. I'm gonna look into this further on mine because I thought I heard a leak when looking under the hood. Which that could cause a power loss?
The crossover is what leaks on the TGP. They crack due to poor design. They suck fresh air in through the crack giving the O2 sensor bad readings. Good place to start.
Wouldn't that throw up an engine code for a bad o2 sensor reading?
Welcome Tim!!!! Glad to have you with us! 8)
