Title: Voltage reg/alt going bad?
Post by: 95GTP on April 04, 2004, 08:10:58 AM
I know this car is a volt/amp eater with all the power goodies.  My car seems to be power surging though.  When I slow down the car surges, lights dim and sometimes it will die when the rpm drops way to low (damn thing wont start in neutral have to go all the way to park) like there is a loss of electrical power.

Is it possible that the alt is going?  Internal voltage regulator?  What have you experienced?

IAC, do an re-learn.  As the car idles down (too low, if the IAC thinks it's supposed to) it will lose elec. power becuase it wasn't designed to give 14v at 400 rpm.

Ill try that along with cleaning the ground connection to the alt/battery as soon as it stops snowing and raining here.

Idle relearn, just disconnect the battery?  Or what else is required.

The IAC relearn seemed to help some.  It still does the surge but not as bad.

That doesn't work when your car is a POS like mine and won't idle no matter what unless my foot is on the gas!

Mine does the same thing and it REALLY pisses me off.  One day I accidentially got it to start in neutral (stalled when I was backing out of the driveway and pulled it back instead of forward by accident) and then for about a week after that it would start in neutral, but since then it will only start in park again...really really odd.
