its a GEN one DSM BOV which my Brother-in-law welded up for me last weekend...
we put a little Extention on the Pipe to Flange to make sure the Flange would not warp when welded....
Its on the Lower IC pipe between the Turbo Outlet and the Intercooler
lots of space to work with down there compared to the upper IC pipe
It Turned out nicely IMO
Im going to have to get/make a new gasket for the BOV to flange...
I guess a Mitsubushi Dealer should have them or maybe a Chrysler???
anyway
Cheers
Dave
Wow! That looks very nice, sir. Yeah, I'm pretty sure you should be able to still get them from the dealer. Let me know if you come across another one. :P I wanted to pick up one on eBay, but for some reason, everyones bidding the hell out of them all of a sudden now.
Thanks!!!!
I bought that BOV off ebay last fall for $10 US shipped...
i have seen they go for much higher now......
I might have a line on another one down the road from me
if i find one its yours if you want it
the guy has tons of cars and there are a few DSM's all for parts
I will be there this weekend and i will see if i can find any for those whom are intrested......
Cheers
Dave
Davis if you happen to run across a replacement gasket please post the pn# if you don't mind. Thanks a lot.
I need a BOV. If there's more than one I want one.
there are no gaskets for these BOV's
Quote from: turbo90gpthere are no gaskets for these BOV's
is that a statement or and Question???
and there is a gasket on mine in between the BOV and the Flange
if it floats your boat i will take a picture of it and show you......... :?
You need a gasket in between because the two surfaces are not machined perfectly. Even if they were the flange will distort from welding the flange to the pipe. Mitsubishi makes one (no I do not have a part #) but for just a couple of dollars go to an auto parts store and get either a rubber or cork gasket sheet and make one for it... 8)
WEll hell When I went to autozone, they said that there werent any, so I Bought a DIY thingy-a-ma-bobber
I know, I'm a moron....
Why are all you guys putting BOV's on your TGP's??? Does it help performance any???

a BOV helps lengthen the life of the turbo. when you let off the gas pedal, the throttle slams shut and the boost pressure has nowhere to go so the pressure wave will slow the turbo down quick. considering a turbo can spin at upwards of 100,000 RPM, this is very hard on turbos. with a BOV, the moment you let off the gas pedal, you no longer see boost in the intake - you see vacuum. the BOV gets the vacuum signal and opens up allowing the pressure wave to escape and not hurt the turbo (which makes that "pshhhttt" sound). it also helps performance since the turbo is not slowed down by the pressure wave - it's still spinning fast and does not have to spool up again after you get back on the throttle. a BOV is more important for cars with a manual tranny since the throttle shuts at every shift, but it is still important on cars with automatics.
You can buy gaskets from Road/Race Engineering, a DSM parts supplier.

Thank you for that explanation...that makes a lot of sense now. I always thought BOV's were just for the sound, but my STE is so friggen loud already that nobody ever believes me when I say it doesn't have a BOV, so I was trying to figure out why everyone would want to spend money to get a sound that the car already had. So I guess thats something to look into in the future when I do my 5 speed swap.

That crippling HORRID sound coming from your turbo is NOTHING compared to the sound of a BOV. It's just painful.

I'm not so sure. I've heard BOV's on other turbo cars and it isn't much louder/different than what my STE sounds like. My STE for some reason is A LOT louder (probably 3 times as loud if not more) than the coupe. Maybe its just odd or maybe the turbo's going. Anyways, if I got a BOV for it and it was any louder than it already is, I wouldn't want to drive it, it would be at the rediculously loud and overexaggerated point IMO..but thats just me.
Shawn
I'll take 1 ridiculously loud and overexaggerated, please!
The TurboXs valves are really loud. My friend has one on his RX7 and another friend has one on his WRX.
The TurboX RFL BOV has gotta be the loudest BOV ive heard. My buddy with his SRT-4 and that thing will make ya go deaf if ya standing to close to it.

an .mp3 of my 1g DSM BOV:
http://www.turbosedan.com/BOV.mp3 (only 7 seconds long)
it isn't that bad is it? i would think it would be worth it just for the well-being of your turbocharger.
Works for me!
Is the BOV the first or second sound?
I wonder why my bov doesn't sound like that. Maybe because I can't really hear it inside my car with my stereo going, windows open, and almost straight pipe exhaust  [used to run straight pipes  ]

it's the 1st sound; the big "PSSSSHHHTTTTT". i think the second sound was the tires screeching around a turn :)
BTW: that was recorded with my brother holding a condensor mic outside of the car, while my other brother drove by him and let off the gas pedal right next to him. it was recorded into a Tascam portable DAT. it was a 1g DSM BOV, but it was on an '89 Dodge Shadow ES with a 2.5 Turbo I 4cyl running 12psi with complete 3" JRB exhaust. i don't think it would sound any different on a TGP since the BOV vents to atmosphere also. i know they are pretty quiet on the Eclipse/Talon because those cars are MAF and they vent right back to the intake. maybe they are quieter with less boost?
Hey, I know this is a super old thread and all, but I was just curious if you might still have them pics available, as they did not show up, me and my friend were considering puttin one on mine, and I was just curious as to how your's looked.
Here's the location of my TurboXS RFL BOV....I know there's no vacuum line in that pic....wasnt done the install in that pic.

ahh... I see... did you get a custom pipe, or just have it welded. My problem is I don't really know anyone who welds well, but I would love to get on put on there.
It came with a weld in adapter, that I had my cousin TIG weld in for me.
I used the OEM pipe, I just drilled the appropriately sized hole with a hole saw, had the adapter welded in, and then repainted the pipe.
Make sure the BOV you get comes with a MILD STEEL weld in adapter.
that is the same location I do believe as the BOV on Invasion1's Cutlass. If you can wait a day or two...I can get you a close up picture of how it is installed!(his car is now mine:D)
ya, that's cool, it's not somethin I plan to do for a while until I can afford to do it... bills are more important to me than my car goin pssst...lol
Yes! This is gotta happen to mine to i am definately putting that on my 90!
.
I have an aftermarket BOV on the lower IC pipe as well. but mines on the topside of the pipe, not on the side
I'll have to post some pics up, it sounds amazing...and everyone just stars at me cuz it's an old 4 door nobody recognizes it.
I've had major compliments from car guy about the car being so rare...etc. its a 90 TSTE White
I love it sooooooo, much. Too bad I'm selling it, but I need cash

a buddy of mine is buying the TSTE, I don't care much for the 4 doors, and he needs a car in order to have a job so I'm selling it to him for $1200 with no problmes and a bunch of new parts. cuz I care
Damn if i only had cash and room damn!!! You are a good friend for doing that i hope he takes good care of her shes rare.
