Title: Poor Gas Miolage
Post by: RedZMonte on April 07, 2004, 09:19:17 PM
my car seems to be Running very rich. i replaced my x-over and got a universal 1 wire O2 from Advance auto parts. and it still runs rich. black smoke out the back and a very rich smell. I am getting HORRIBLE gas miolage. I do have new plugs and good wires. My gas tank seal where the sending unit seals to the tank needs replaced, could that be a problem or is there something else, OR do the TGP's Get really shitty gas miolage?

What about the coils and ignition module?  And have you checked the injectors?

If you have black smoke coming out the tailpipes you have more than a rich fuel problem.  Does your turbo spool fine.  The black smoke could be from oil leaking through the seals in your turbo like mine does.  If the turbo is bad it can cause you to run rich because you aren't getting the right exhaust flow.

Check the FPR. Pull the vac hose off and see if it spews fuel. then get a real o2 sensor if all the others have checked out.

And the path of the rightous man...

WHAT!

i have found a very small ammount of oil in the charge pipes. but tipically black smoke if fuel and blue smoke is oil and white smoke that smells like pancakes is coolant.

What should i check for as far as the injectors go? I did have a bad coil. i replaced it and the car runs fine. the car runs perfectly fine just very rich. my dyno chart showed the a/r mixture was off the scale rich.

I usually average right around 16-16.5mpg, but that is 90+% city driving.  I get 32-34mpg on the freeway.

Check the resistance and make sure it's putting out the correct amount of ohms (I don't recall what the correct number is, but if you do a search, I'm pretty sure it was mentioned here before).  They may just need a good cleaning, too.  Also, the FPR was a good suggestion, too.

As far as gas mileage goes, I get ~26-27mpg driving like a grandma in a mix of 90% highway, 10% city driving.
