Title: two problems for the price of one
Post by: 95GTP on April 09, 2004, 05:28:05 PM
I'm working on the power surge thing I mentioned in another post.  I hear some bearings going out, somewhere on the accessory side, Alternator?  No its quiet.  Waterpump?  Some noise but not to bad.  I do the IAC relearn and call it a day...

I go to start the car in the morning and see antifreeze leaking at a good flow, pop the hood and get a Prestone shower  :x  , the water pump just blasting fluid everywhere.  Oh well I needed to drive the GTP anyway, nice day too.

I get a new waterpump for $21,  :D  thats ok not too much right.  All installed and cleaned up in an hour.  So take it for a drive.  "Antilock" light is on steady,    fck thats the PMIII and alot of $$$.  Try some stuff, the light doesnt come on when the car is still and I pump the brakes, the light only comes on when the car in rolling.  Bad sensor?  Dirt and crap on it?

So I get the hose, car needs a wash anyway, put it on stream and blast the inside of the wheels real good, hose the hell out of the wheel wells, hose out the eng compartment to get the residule antifreeze out of there.  No more light.

Car is all clean, working great and looks good with the "for sale" sign in the window.  8)

My ABS light did that too. Only came on when you started driving, and never came on while driving in water, which was annoying because the ABS would cycle at every pedal press.
Found one of the sensors had a broken wire, fixed that, problem went away, came back a day later. So I'm gonna guess that all 4 sensors could stand to be replaced.

take the wheels off and shoot it with some brake cleaner and see if the problem goes away. could just have shyt on the sensors.

I wonder about the water thing.  The light came on today after it sat and had time to dry.  I'll get to taking the wheels off and get to cleaning.  I have had this problem on many cars and found gunk buildup on the sensor.  I sure hope this is the problem.

Cleaned out the front areas where the sensors are, found a broken wire on the front right, its been broken for a while since it was corroded, repaired the wire but the light is on steady now  .  Bad sensor?  If the wire was broken before why didnt the light come on before?  It just seemed to happen all of a sudden, when i fix something it gets worse, starting to get pissed off.  Cant wait to sell,  I need to sink money into the GTP, I have a bad strut and a set of 4 KYB g2's will run me over $200 not installed.
