Title: Year-round drivers
Post by: maximage on April 16, 2004, 01:29:58 PM
Any northerners here DAily Drive the TGP's all year? I know it's a bad idea, but I will probably only do it for 1 more year(my wife an I are having a baby, and I have to make 1 car a daily driver, and one a toy. The Supra is NOT an option for a daily). After that the Beetle will be paid for and she can get a new daily driver (Beetle becomes a toy), and I can take the Blazer.

I guess my biggest question is how do you keep them from rusting? Mine is rust free and I want to keep it that way. Any ideas? I know about washing it regularly, just looking for other ideas as well.

up untill last fallm my 90 SE was the year round car.  Got washed 1-2 times per week with a heavy coat of wax.  kept the rust off and what was left of the paint still there.

My dads '90 TGP is his winter beater!  It was completely rust free when he got it ~1.5 years ago.  The body is still completely rust free, however a few parts of the frame are starting to get a little surface rust.  It gets waxed about 2 times a year, and washed once a week, sometimes twice.  But that does nothing to help the frame.

I would run mine through the auto. wash and let it spray the bottom of the car off. Then with the wax it kept rust off pretty good.
