Title: how to remove knuckle?
Post by: tyroelite on May 02, 2004, 08:46:08 PM
Could anyone give me some directions to remove a front knuckle.  I'm going to do the brake upgrade and just want to make sure that I have all the tools needed.

raise car, remove the front wheels and set the car on jackstands.

place a large screwdriver into a cooling vane in the rotor to keep it from spinning, and remove the 36mm axle nut and washer.

remove the two T60 Torx bolts from the caliper and tie it up out of the way making sure not to place stress on the brake hose.  remove the rotor and set it aside.

remove the two 15mm sway bar bolts from the lower control arm on each side.

remove the 18mm lower ball joint nut and seperate with pickle fork.

swing the strut/knuckle assembly outwards and push the axle thru the knuckle and set it out of the way on the lower control arm, making sure the CV joints do not seperate.

use a pitman arm puller on the outer tie-rod end and seperate it from the knuckle.

remove the 3 nuts on top of the strut towers underhood and pull the whole assembly out...
