I went to the dragstrip yesterday to the Michigan Grand Prix Club's MGM5 event, which was mostly GP's. There were a few GA's there and a Caddilac and a ZO6 and a few things like that, but almost all GP's. So anyways, when we first got there they were talking about not being able to run the 1/4 and having to just run the 1/8 because the track was flooded at the end because it had been raining for the last 11 days there. Well, after about an hour the water levels had dropped a lot, and they dried it off the best they could so they decided to let us run the whole 1/4 mile. Well, once they did open the track we had to stop at the first turn around which gives you pretty much no room to stop because the other one was flooded, and the track was WORSE than the street. It rained for the last 11 days and they weren't spraying anything on the track. My dad usually pulls mid 1.7 60's in his GTP on slicks, and his best yesterday was a 1.889 60'.
Well knowing that the track was horrible I started out babying the car off the line, and this actually was my 2nd best run of the day. But the track was so bad I stomped the gas at about 20mph or so and the tires broke loose (just as they would on the street). He is the times for that run:
R/T: .843
60': 2.304
330': 6.249
1/8: 9.506 @ 75.48
1000': 12.327
1/4: 14.718 @ 94.53
For the 2nd run I tried launching a little harder and it felt much better but the 60' wasn't much better for some reason. The slip:
R/T: .689
60': 2.298
330': 6.285
1/8: 9.557 @ 75.22
1000': 12.384
1/4: 14.783 @ 94.12
So then I get pissed. I go out, brake torque to 1800, and mash my foot down 1/2 way then ease into it. This resulted in the car SMOKING the tires and the worst 60' I have ever gotten in my life.
R/T: .936
60': 2.477
330': 6.521
1/8: 9.806 @ 75.08
1000': 12.635
1/4: 15.030 @ 94.29
I went yet again and tried to improve my launch and I can't remember what I did here, but it didn't work.
R/T: .885
60': 2.364
330': 6.369
1/8: 9.645 @ 75.44
1000': 12.473
1/4: 14.872 @ 93.93
I was standing there watching others run when I saw them, for the first time of the day, spray the track with a little VHT. So this time I decided the car WAS going to do better than 14.7's, because I know it has 14.4's or 14.5's in it. So I brake torqued to 2000 and when the tree came down I let off the brake and eased my foot into it slowly, with the tires chirping the whole time until I reached WOT. That resulted in the best 60' of the day, and therefore the best 1/4 mile of the day. The problem is though that this time is only .273 seconds faster than my best time before the TopGun chip...which is definately not what I was looking forward to.
R/T: .959
60': 2.228
330': 6.216
1/8: 9.484 @ 75.42
1000': 12.305
1/4: 14.695 @ 94.49
After that, about 2 hours later I figured I would run again since they had been spraying the track a little now, and it didn't help.
R/T: .811
60': 2.300
330': 6.290
1/8: 9.554 @ 75.47
1000': 12.378
1/4: 14.771 @ 94.34
So that what I ended up with. I wasn't very happy, I think I'll be going back to a Test & Tune soon because hopefully then the track will be a little better. My goal for the day was a 14.499 or better, and I still want to hit that, and by the looks of these slips, the car definately has 14.49's in it.
Oh well, I guess I just get to visit the track again soon. It was fun though. I'll be scanning the slip and posting it on here soon.

Congrats....again. 8)
Finally scanned the slip:

Shawn: I know you're disappointed and used to your dad's GTP's performance, but all in all, that's pretty damn good. I mean, think about it. These are some pretty old damn cars, and for them to even be hitting mid 14s with ease is pretty impressive to me. A handfull have even hit 13s, which is astounding not just because of the age of the vehicles, but the fact that there hasn't been any serious work done to 95% of the TGPs/TSTEs out there (just minor bolt on stuff). Just imagine what a fresh motor/turbo rebuild from the ground up with some performance parts could do.
So....in spite of your disappointment, I emplore you to accept a congratulations. :D
I understand that 14.69 is plenty quick if you think about what the car is...and that is a 14 year old family sedan. But it makes me add that I added a chip and didn't even gain 3 tenths of a second. Thats why I'm dissapointed. I ran a 14.96 before the chip. I was just hoping for like a 14.40, thats all. No big deal.
