Title: New 1/4 mile times
Post by: skalor on August 17, 2002, 02:16:05 PM
:D I ran at the track last night and just wanted to tell everyone my times with the topgun 160 chip.  My previous best was a 15.700 at 83, and my new best is 15.023 at 90.47 with a 2.248 60' on 12 psi(autometer gauge).  All of my friends were very impressed with such a big improvement with the chip and x-over.  7/10's of a second is an awesome deal for around $300.  I ran 9 times hoping to break into the 14's but it didn't happen.  I'm going to race again next week, but this time I'm hacking the mufflers off.

That is a good improvement.  I am in the process of selling my 95 Beretta base and then I will have some extra money for some upgrades.

I can tell my car has a leaky crossover or a manifold.  My best was only 16.19.  When I get that fixed should my stock times be about the same as yours?  I though these cars were supposed to be 15.3 stock.

They can run low 15's stock.  There is one guy here who ran 14.98 stock.  I think each car is different and also the tune of each car will have a huge effect.  One car's fuel pump may be on its last leg or have a clogged filter, another car may have a leaky fuel injector, another one might have a poor driver not building boost at the line, or a wheel out of alignment causing unnecessary drag, or the wrong spark plugs with the wrong gap, or bad (corroded) grounds to his ECM.  Who knows what might be wrong on these cars, after 13-14 years...  When I got my Syclone they were supposed to run 13.4-13.8 stock.  I got mine and expected to run exactly that.  It felt that fast, cause I never rode in anything that fast before so I told all my friends that's what it ran.  I took it to the track and couldnt do better than 14.22 and I was really disappointed.  Well over the next year I learned how to work on a car and I didn't add any performance parts to my truck but carefully tuning it and identifying problems with a laptop scan tool I dropped over 1.2 seconds off my ET down to a 13.01!  The majority of that was really just regaining lost performance.  There was only a few things I added that pushed it beyond factory, like a motor tie-down strap to put the power to the road instead of flexing the worn factory motor mounts.

You mentioned the tune, when you guys post you times do you have you tune job where the factory recommends or tuned differently for performance? Mines factoy.
                                            Thanks,
