The main problem I see there is that your 60' times really suck.  When I went 14.96 in my STE I pulled a 2.09 60', and my 14.695 was with a 2.228 60'.  Not only that, but if you hold the car in 2nd gear to about 6000-6100rpms instead of letting it shift by itself, that will give you 1-2 tenths.  So practice launching and hold the car in 2nd gear longer and it should move pretty good.  Not only that, but if you brake torque at the line only brake torque for a VERY short period of time, or the computer will pull boost to save the tranny. (torque convertor)

And the 80 degree temps definately didn't help you any.  The colder the better with these cars.  When its 80 degrees out I don't even bother going to the track.  50-60 degrees is just about perfect (colder than 50 and its too cold to stand outside, and warmer than 60 and the car is just too slow).  Both times I brought my STE to the track it was mid 50's.

If the weather holds out for this Friday, I'll head to the track again for the flashlight drags to see what I can do. I'll try the 2nd gear thing too.

Well I made some new passes tonight. Weather was in the low 60s, high 50s.

May 28, 2004
60ft: 2.375
1/4: 15.095@93.17

60ft: 2.378
1/4: 15.315@93.36

60ft: 2.468
1/4: 15.538@92.78

60ft: 2.385
1/4: 15.768@91.09

I can deffinitly tell that my 60ft is holding me back :(

The car is making more power now though...it is trapping 3-4mph faster.  Thats a big difference.  So probably the combination of colder weather and holding it in 2nd (if you did that) helped you there.  You would've hit 14's if you could've gotten at least as good of 60' as you did for your best time before.  All you have to do is figure out how to launch the car.

What all do you do for track prep???

I have my spare/jack removed.

When I get to the track and after tech, I park it and pop the hood to put some ice on the manifold. I let the car cool down for a good 10-15 minutes. Then wait in line with the hood open.

But here's my biggest problem, and what other people are saying is my biggest problem.

The last portion of my track goes uphill  :(

I agree that the track is part of your problem, however the car is still very capable of 14's ON THAT TRACK.  Those trap speeds show that the car is plenty capable, and not only that but if you take 2 tenths off of those 60' times (which CAN be done with practice) it will give you probably 3 tenths or so at the end.

Are you changing your tire pressure at all?  I drop my fronts to ~23psi and raise the rears to 40psi.  That should help your launches significantly.  I also make sure my spark plugs are less than 5000 miles old, and I make sure my air filter is clean.  Also, I run with 1/3 tank of gas or less.

I also don't put ice on anything (I have found that it doesn't really do much and just gets water everywhere).  Not only that but I don't really let my car cool down for long periods of time.  I have found (with my car at least) that if the car isn't very warm and/or hasn't been running for very long the computer won't let it get full boost.  So I just leave mine running in the staging lanes and the fans will come on and cool it down when necessary.

I'm sure there are a few other things I'm forgetting, but that car is EASILY capable of 14's.  The launch is the main problem.

I found out that my track is 1300ft above sealevel  . So I went to the NHRA website and found altitude correction formulas to adjust my times.

Here are my fastest times altitude corrected.

9/10/03: 15.09@89.64 with a 2.29 60ft.
Corrected: 14.88@90.92

5/28/04: 15.095@93.17 with a 2.375 60ft.
Corrected: 14.881@94.5.

I deffinitly have to work on my 60ft and go to a better track.

Poland is about 30-40 miles east of Akron, OH. So I'm pretty far from Cincy.

I was 1ce told by a STI guy that altitude really doesnt matter as much on a boosted car as it does N/A because its still getting plenty of air.

That is a common myth about boosted cars.  I read a whole thing disproving that...although you can't believe everything you read on the internet.  But anyways, I know that altitude does make a big difference on boosted cars...I have seen it many times with GTP's that run a second slower at 4500ft. than they do at 100ft.

But anyways, I know you aren't really close or anything, but Norwalk is supposed to be a REALLY good track.  You might try going there...the traction is also supposed to be great.

What size shot are you running? Is it on stock internals?

I'm thinking of running a Sneaky Pete kit [or a similar set-up from another manufacturer] with like a 35 or 50shot if the stock internals can take it.

yea im on stocker as far as i know and im just finnishing up taking the kit off i ran way too muchits ok nothing broke i just dont want to kill it but i did it realy fat so i wouldnt hurt her i had the fuel jetted a 175 and 125 on the jucie the run wasnt all the way though on the bottle but let me tell you it was alot nicer than the damn 20 shot i used to chill the air lol  i ran a 125 on my 2.8 for about 18 months and its fine i finaly jumped timing i basicly decied to see what a 2.8 can take ad as i found 7705 on a 125 will hop 2 teeth and then driving it hope got me 4 more but not bad on a 130k stock 2.8 with a autozone airfilter and exaust intake the car ate the o2 but thats the only other part it lived through 25 or so 10lb bottle   o yeqa the nos is fo sale im doing a direct port on the tgp and on the honda lol

It most certainly does...higher altitude (say above 3800ft) you are not only in less dense air, but the O2 levels fall off. Less O2...less power no matter if it is N/A, Turbocharged, or Supercharged. A SC or Turbo car will do better than a N/A car at higher altitiudes...but the power does drop off... 8)
