Title: Clutch Master Cylinder
Post by: turbo90gp on July 23, 2004, 01:36:16 PM
Does the clutch master cylinder assembly have the part to attach it to the firewall on there or is that a seperate part???  Also, what kind of line attaches the slave and master cylinders?  Brake line with the same fittings???

You will need to make a hole in the firewall that is squared with the corners cut off slightly. What happens is the master of the clutch assembly twists and locks in place.

Josh do you have up close pictures of it for him? 8)

make sure and try to install the hold down.  My CMC fell off the firewall once, and had to drive home w/o a clutch.

When I was doing the swap my ex-roomy was going to make a cone shaped brace that would mount to the strut tower to hold the CMC in place. We never got around to it cause I was too impatient to wait (imagine that!! ) for him to fab it up and me to be able to drive the car. Never had an issue with mine so we never fab'd up the part... 8)

i'll look around for pics but actually brian89gp has much better pics than i do on his website:  http://www.brian89gp.com under the '5-speed swap' link on the left.

when i modified the round hole in the firewall to a square hole i used a Dremel with an 18" flex shaft and a tungsten carbide cutter.  i made really small cuts and test fit often.  this method might not work on a TGP due to the different ABS brake system possibly being in the way.  i got it to install really nice and snug, and i didn't even drill the small hole for the screw that keeps the clutch master cylinder from twisting out.  i've never had a problem with it at all.

the hydraulic line is a hard line with black plastic covering.  it uses a roll pin on both sides where it attatches to the master cylinder and slave cylinder and seals using small rubber o-rings.  hopefully you can still order one from the dealership or find a used one...
good luck

Perfect picture on Brian's site Transmission>5-speed swap>..."5-speed plate - master cylinder hole" is the name. Wish mine looked that clean when I was finished...but it worked perfect.

The TGP hole is round with a plug in it in between the PMIII and the shock tower. When I did mine the PMIII was out and made real easy access to the CMC hole fabricating. I had pictures of everything when I did my swap...but they have all since been lost...damn Compaq computers!

Brian didn't cut the hole in that pic. He actually changed plates on the firewall.

I'll be doing this when I put the new tranny in because I'll be going to vacuum brakes at the same time.  :D
