Title: ABS PROB!!!b
Post by: TGPrix. on August 04, 2004, 04:46:17 PM
I got a big problem here...
-
Okay so 1st off, my master cylinder went out on my abs and so now when I put brake fluid in it drains out within minutes. I took tha abs out completely, hope'n I would be able to find a MC in a junk yard some where. Cause I found out that no local auto stores such as autozone or checkers sell MC's for my car, tho they do have a shit load of non abs onez, and GM is asking $3,000.oo for a brand new one which I'm not about to pay. Well yeah, I've been to every junk yard in town and I can't seem to find nothing at all similar to my abs...
-
So what i need to know is was there any other cars that GM put that same exact abs in, besides tha cutlass and regal cause I aint about to pay 3,000 for a new one. Or do you know of any way to rapare or rebuild tha MC. IF so, then could you please let me. I'm really getting tired if my car troubles...

Thanx...

www.priorreman.com

"Prior Remanufacturing (www.priorreman.com) 1-800-444-4821 is the only place I would recommend to remanufacture these units. They run about $500 with a $50 core and feature a 3year/36k mile warranty. The part number is 4600107. They usually have them in stock, but Prior says that this is one of their more popular units. Prior has a custom manufactured rear housing to FIX the number one problem with the PMIII.  They also pay delivery and return shipping for this price!!! I highly recommend Prior for their units."

I'm having all the stuff sent up to me when I put the new tranny and built motor in.  I'll be sure to take plenty of pics, it's not rocket surgery, just takes a while.

No, not only the TGPs, but it was a pretty expensive option at the time, so not a whole lot of people opted for it when they bought their cars.  You should be able to find that same unit on most any w-body from '88 - '91 I think (correct me if I'm wrong, guys).  The first ABS units were a monstrousity of a mechanism, and very costly to repair.  It has been the reason a great many an AWD 6000 was tossed in the junkyard.     The Teves II system found in those is very, very similar to the Powermaster III, and equally as expensive.  Unfortunately, unlike the TGPs, not as many people knew about, or were as interested in finding a way to fix/keep their AWDs, or at least sell them off to someone else who could use them/restore them, instead of dumping them in some yard without anyone knowing, and having them wastefully crushed.
