Ok, before I go postal and drive this god damn car straight off of a cliff I'm stopping in here to ask any tips or common problems with seating the lower intake.
The bastard is not going to seat on the rear of the motor near the oil pump drive. This is the 2nd gasket I have compressed in the last week to make this focker seal!!!! It is leaving a slight gap between the block and the intake so the front water jacket is not sealing and the coolant just drips its way out, I am ready to start this fucking thing after this rebuild, I torqued everything to spec, heads mainly what I think could cause this, 33 lbs/ft and then 1/4 turn after that. I am at a total and complete loss. Any tips? Please help me!! 8)
Could be you have a bad lower intake. I know they're everywhere so it shouldn't hurt that much if that's the case.
I didn't know they were the same, I assumed they were different. I can get one easily then. I'm gonna have a friend take a look at it first to make sure I didn't do something stupid. I'll update later.
did you have the heads resurfaced? if so could that have possibly messed it up? doubtful but that's about all i could think of...
good luck with it!
Yea...if they shaved alot from it , prblems could arise. DID you tighen the intake to the way its Illustarated on the Manual. Center on out. I can feel you on this. That vally pan gasket is pricy and a pain to get to and install (mainly because of the pushrod removal). I put copper silicone around the watter passages and the edges of the gasket to keep oil in. I even spayed copper head gasket silicone on the intake ports of the gasket.
When you take it off again. Check all surfaces with a straight edge.
This is the first time I hear about this problem.
Easy with the GOD Dam. DAM THE DEVIL....Dam the Devil to hell.
Edit*..did you use the head boss guide..or what ever they are called. I almost forgot to install those before the head...GOOD EYE Pops.
The heads were resurfaced when they were off, and yes I did use the guides, I didn't know what to call them, but people that I talked with called them dowels or however you would spell them, assuming you are talking about the hollow rings that hold the gasket and head in place before torqueing.
Sorry about the harsh words in my previous posts, but if I could tell you the story of the troubles this car has caused you would understand.
Yeah, I'm torqueing it according to my Pontiac service manual,
7 4 3 6
8 1 2 5
Is this correct from what you can tell? I'm thinking that that piece of aluminum may have warped when I tightened it the first time, because I had the heater core line attached to prevent problems with that after I installed the intake, which could have caused it to not seat correctly and warped it while it sat.
I'm going to get a used intake today from a junk yard hear in town and see if thats the problem, if not looks like these heads will be coming off, AGAIN, to make sure that isn't the problem. I'll update when I get a replacment intake.
I think I've solved the problem here, I went to the yard and pulled an intake from a 89 Cutty and took it home, set it in there and it sat in there much better than the other, so I'm pretty sure that's my problem. I must have warped it when I torqued it before with the heater core line attached. I also took the core line from the Cutlass and I am hoping to make it work with the TGP, I'll pull the turbo back out tonite and play around with it and get this thing back together tomorrow so I can FINALLY hear it purrrr... 8)
I know this was a one off problem. It was strange that it didn't sit. Glad you got your problem solved. Yea...I get pissed too when things just don't go right when it should. Female related mostly... ..lately . No problem sir. Oh yea...I use "Dam the Devil"...I got tired of people and myself using God Dam :? .
Well fire the sucker up! 8)
