Grrrrr!!!!! Those buttheads built it with a getrag and then forgot to offer it to the buyers!!
They also built it with 305 hp, and a nearly 14 seconds flat 1/4 time. Looks like we, as owners, will just have to make up for that.
Already there, but I want ET's, so I am staying auto with a little work. I finally found someone to do this trans for me that can really take it to the next level. There is going to have to be a lot of custom parts, but screw it. I have the need for speed!!
I only have the articles except for the Automobile magazine one which I have the full magazine.
The engine has 100 more horsepower, but no more torque. Its all that boost! It must've had a bigger turbo & intercooler, and obviously not a chip anything like our stock one. The 5 speed, along with the 305hp, would not be a bad combo. I wonder if this car is still floating around somewhere...it would be interesting to get ahold of it and see what it would do, and how differently it is setup. Also notice the wider tires, better gearing (although, thats due to the 5 speed), and significantly lighter weight. (I'm pretty sure ours aren't 3038lbs...I thought it was more like 3400lbs) The red mirrors look very good also. I saw another one with red mirrors (IIRC it was a pace car) and it looks sweet IMO. Anyways, it would've been nice if they would've produced them with that kind of power.

Yes, months would be EXTREMELY helpfull.
Road and Track: April 2004 Page 29 Years Ago article
"Our roadtest proved the Potniac McLaren Turbo Grand Prix was a far cry from its poor-handling 1960's and '70s' namesakes. The new car showed 'Ferocity and Velocity' going from zero to 60 in 7 seconds flat and reaching a top speed of 128 mph. Most of its handling compnents had been improved, and only the brakes were a problem with Rough ABS pulses. Accomodations included full instrumentation and even a trip computer. We called the redesigned Grand Prix 'A Musclecar with manners'"

TTT
I'm a little confused, here. Both you and 90TGP called this an '88 issue, but at the top of your links, it says November 1987. I bought all 12 issues of the '88, and couldn't find it in them, so I'm guessing '87 is the correct year?
Eh????
Magazines always test the new cars 1 year ahead of time. So the year would be 87.

That's what I figured, but you both posted '88, so I didn't even look at the date in the link the first time. List updated.
Another one with at least a picture of a TGP(maybe some info on it, unsure)...see my other thread in the same General section here for a picture.
AutoWeek, May 29, 1989-Volume 39 Number 22-pp. 32-33
The Magnificent Seven; center 2 page spread w\entire '89 Pontiac line inc.Turbo GP and, of course, the TTA, in front of winner's circle at Indy
More(some of these are on ebay all the time, mainly just ads w/ pictures and no TGP specific info).
Car Craft, July 1989-Volume 37 Number 7-pp. 102-103
"Both of these special, limited edition Pontiacs leave the factory on just one make of radial tires." Same as above but with Turbo Grand Prix in place of Indy car on text page.
Car & Driver, May 1989-pp. 150-151
The Magnificent Seven as mentioned above.
I found this info on a TTA website.
Something else of interest(a Book)..
Standard Guide to American Muscle Cars, edited by John Gunnell, published by Krause Publications. Page 271. A supercar source book 1949-92. 1989 1/2 Pontiac 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am Indy 500 pace car. One page with two photos and text. One photo is press photo with the car in front of pit lane. The other photo mistakenly shows the 3.1L Turbo from the Turbo Grand Prix as the TTA's powerplant.
