Title: Puff of oil smoke upon starting.
Post by: mfewtrail on September 16, 2004, 08:42:13 PM
I'm not posting to ask for answers on this, only to inform of a problem/solution regarding this with my car.  For a few weeks now when I would go to crank up the TGP I would get a little puff of blue smoke out the tailpipes right when the car fired up. Anyways, I replaced the oil return line(thanks Jim/idbeast!) that was partially clogged(liner inside had broken down like those I've read about here in the past) causing oil to back up into the turbocharger/be pushed past the turbo oil seal and be burned off in the exhaust. Now after driving the car a few times with the new line on, I haven't had any oil smoke out the exhaust at all. 8)

If any of you are having problems with a little oil smoke out the exhaust, take the time to remove the oil return line(two hose clamps) and inspect it!

LOL I've got more than just a puff...

Gonna pull the turbo.... get a new one, see if that fixing the shit I've been having to deal with for the last month.

Before you pull the turbo, pull the oil return hose, and see if it is seperated, There is about 95% chance that is is and its a lot easier than pulling the whole turbo...

Yep, the oils return hose was pulled.. It's new .... There is oil leaking out at the rear of the turbo were the exhaust header pipe meets it.
