Title: blow off valve
Post by: no1kicker on October 03, 2004, 03:49:21 PM
I finally just installed my universal bov.  I tried to use one of the 4 lines at the TB for a source for the bov.  It didn't work, and after some searching here I saw a post that you can't do that.

So is the only option to unscrew the fitting in the plenum and use that?  Does anyone know the size of the fitting I would have to get to do this.

That's not the only option.  I used the vac. line that goes to the map sensor and used a plastic t-fitting from Advance Auto.  I cut that line and re-attached it to the MAP sensor and  I then ran the correct size tubing from that T down with the plug wires and then across to the BOV that I have on the lower charge pipe.   I used zip ties on the rubber fittings just to be safe and have had no issues as of yet.  Good luck.

Kick- Which universal BOV is this?  And let us know just how loud it is when you get it working.

It's a JDM one, about 7 inches tall.  I just tried to use the line from the map sensor, ended up pulling a few vacuum lines apart under the plenum.    So They're reattached above it for now.  I'll probably pull the plenum this week to try again.  I'm hoping it's gonna be loud cause it's huge and has a trumpet.

WHere does that line go anyway?  Seemed like it went under the plenum and eventually to the TB?

I got it running off where you guys have the trans modulator hose attached to on the intake.

Is it alright on the auto tranny to run the BOV from that connection?
That's where my BOV is connected, but it doesn't share it with the tranny.
Jess was wanting to get one, and I'm just curious.

that location would work great for a car with a manual transmission.  otherwise i would suggest a manifold distribution block, which could handle the FPR, MAP, BOV, wastegate, and boost gauge sources.  i would not want 'share' vacuum sources for 2 different things using one vacuum line and a 'T' fitting, but that's just me.

That MAP vac line comes right from the TB connections.  One goes to EGR, other to EVAP solenoid and then one to the MAP.  IIRC.  The line that you disconnected most likely goes to the FPR on the Fuel rail.

We put a T in the back of the plenum where vacuum assisted brakes would go, one for the BOV, and one for the gauge.....one of the many "modifications" that we did....   I'll bet my PVC is the easiest to change :)  Don't even have to remove the plenum :)
