hey guys theres a 95 gtp in the paper fully loaded 91k for $1,800. these dont come turbo'd or superchargd do they? what size engine is it and what mods could i stick in there?
No, the turbos were only made in '89 & '90, and the supercharged 3800s (L67) didn't start till the redesign in '97 (gen II w-body). The GTP you're looking at would have the 3.4 Dual Overhead Cam V6 in it, putting out about 210 hp. They're great for performance when they're running right, they're hell on your pocket book when they're not. The alternator alone requires 4 hours of labor in the book. It's the type of motor that you really don't want to have in your car if you're not capable of doing the work/repairs yourself. Shops will kill you on labor, if they are willing to do it at all.
I'd ask the owner/seller if the timing belt has been done yet, or not. On those motors (well....most any DOHC motor), it's a regular part of maintenance, and must be done at 60K miles. Bad things happen if one of those wear out/snap. :shock: I'd also ask if the alternator's been changed.
Mod wise, depends how expensive you want to go. There's the typical air intake upgrade (or downgrade, depending on how you feel on this subject), FFP makes chips, billet aluminum poly motor mounts, and underdrive pulleys for them. They're capable of high 15's/low 16's stock. Some guys have fabricated headers and such for them, and there's a guy on the w-body club claiming he runs high 14's with his, now.
All that being said, if this car is in really good shape, $1,800 is actually a very good price for a '95 GTP in my opinion. I've seen dealers charge as much as $6k-$7k for them (not that there's a China man's chance in hell they would get that). Privately, it would probably go for around $3-$3,500K in really good shape.
