Title: DIC going/gone bad?
Post by: z284pwr on November 17, 2004, 02:36:22 PM
Ever since we installed the new stereo in the TGP, the DIC hasn't been working right.  I don't know if it just may be a wiring that didn't get installed to 12v or something, EVERY time I turn the car off or what not the DIC loses all its information and calibrations, as in will always reset to 01-01-88 and all the mileage, speed, etc. etc. is all reset to zero.  Also ever since we got the car I have never been able to get the reset thing to work, it doesn't matter what section I'm under, is will ALWAYS say Miss Op if I press the reset button, I have even waiting like has been suggested before, to no success, it always will say it.

Would this be a sign that it is making its slow decent to another place *death* or am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure you have some bad solder joints in the DIC.  When you installed the radio you bought a wiring kit right?  God, tell me you didn't hack wires.  I hate that.

For your first problem it sounds to me like you lost your constant 12VDC going to your DIC.  It could be a bad solder joint as god910 suggested but that would be one heck of a coincidence (maybe for problem #2).  Since you just put that stereo in I would suspect you somehow killed that 12V.  So did you hack the wires or get an install kit?  I'm with god910 on this in that I hope you didn't hack.  If I'm reading the service manual correct, you can check the connector at position A1 (orange/black wire) and you should read constant 12V.  If you don't have it you need to find where it's getting lost.  It goes through fuse #2 and that supplies power to the radio, DIC and instrument cluster.  Hope this helps.
