Is there any way to make the 5-speed manual from a 2.8 work on the tgp engine (to withstand the power)? If so what would you have to do.
Easily, that's I've got running in my car.. I wasn't the one who did the swap though. Kenny (aka TGPilot) on the forums here can tell you all about that.
thats all I really needed to know. I would be doing it myself I was just curious if you could use that transmission.
Yes that tranny will work. The Bellhousing is the same between the 2.8 and 3.1 motors... 8)
I'm pretty sure the 2.8 tranny is the 282 is it not? So, as was already said, it should work just fine. But personally I would beef it up a bit if your gonna use it behind a Turbo 3.1. Although, my 282 in my Calais is holding up to the 180hp and 7200rpm, even with 185k on it, so I guess its a pretty strong tranny.

If your going to go all out on mods to the motor, then I would maybe look in to getting the tranny beefed up some. But if you going for the basic mods (chip, intake, exhaust, etc.) then it's fine as it is. Just get a good clutch, and have it inspected by a shop before installing it.
Kenny told me the 282 I have in the TGP had around 120k on the clock when it was pulled and it hasn't shown any signs of problems to this date.
Thanks guys. I will probably just bolt it up for now. And when I start to build up the engine I will have the transmission built up at the same time. That way I can just remove the transmission and take it to a shop then (which is in like 1 1/2 to 2 years). 8)
Im wondering about the master and slave cylinder setups. Can you mix them...like the master from the Early Grand prix with a later Getrag with the internal slave cylinder?
