Title: Wastegate Actuator ?
Post by: Gearhead43 on January 07, 2005, 06:39:07 PM
I found a new T-25 Wastegate Actuator. But the unit is set at 8 PSI max.... Will this limit my boost to only 8 PSi or does the Top Gun Chip override it?

Wow! I just re-read my post and I have a few beers in me tonight...my apologies for the long drawn out explaination!! :drinking:

Jeff can better answer questions about his chip boost levels...but if you have the stock wastegate solenoid hooked in line with your new wastegate actuator then whatever the chip's boost level is will be what your boost will be. Now if you set the preload (if the actuator rod is threaded) for a higher level than what the chips boost is programmed than the preload will over ride the chips set point.

Summary...

If the chip program boost level is higher than the mechanical preset or preload, the chip wins and that is your boost level.

If the mechanical preload is set higher than the chip program boost level, then the mechanical wins because the solenoid has no way to override.

Easiest way for you to see what your wastegate actuator is set at is to run a vacuum line direct from the turbo pressure nipple on the turbine housing direct to the wastegate inlet port on the wastegate actuator diaphram housing. Whatever boost the turbo is producing (pre-intercooler PSI loss) will then be fed direct to the wastegate actuator. It will open at whatever the spring preload is set at inside the actuator... 8)

I'm curious, where exactly did you find this wastegate actuator at?
