Title: wow. vacuum help! vac modulator performance question!
Post by: ZachS on August 24, 2002, 09:46:59 AM
Hey everybody... I've got a problem... or possibly a fix...

For the past few weeks my car has REALLY been running like complete butt.  Last night i thought it finally took the bite... it wouldnt idle, it was throwing the SES light, and it was just terrible.  Well... I took it to my mechanic, and he found that the major vacuum line block thing on my throttle body was 'unplugged'.

He put it back in, and replaced the vac line going from my engine to my trans... the only problem is that he just put the line on.  he didnt put a 'T' in or anything.  Now I'm almost postive that it needs to have a T to bleed off the extra pressure.

Here is my question... if it doesnt have a T... what kind of shifing will I get?  Weak?  Harsh?

TIA

My T was plugged by mechanic for a year or so before i found the web site with the information it shouldn't be plugged, i only noticed harsh shifting when letting off a run with boost. otherwise, drove fine.

I think the boost can eventually damage the modulator. Others have reported hard shifting, weak shifting, anything really. In all those reported cases, whatever the problem, fixing the vacuum T was the repair for the symptom.
