Title: IC sprayer

Anyone have some tips or a good website that shows how to make an intercooler sprayer?  Thinking of trying to make a cheap one.

What are you going to be spraying on the intercooler Greg? Water, nitrous, or carbon dioxide?? Anyways, I would rig up a setup similar to this.

Just buy some type of suitable tubing(you're going to need a bending/flaring kit probably) and shape it into a square or rectangle.  Then drill tiny holes all in the side facing the IC(I found a write-up somewhere once on a co2 sprayer that had a suggested hole size...if I find it, I'll post a link).  I would source the nitrous solenoid off ebay or somewhere to use if you go w/ nitrous/co2, I suppose a washer tank solenoid/pump might be adequate for a water spraying setup.

Thanks for the link Matt!  I'd probably use water.  Seems like the easiest, and as long as it's effective it's good enough for me.  I'm going to do some research.  I thought I remembered someone saying they were making one, but didn't find any old posts about it.

That was probably me, I posted about making one last year in a "what are your plans" type post.

EDIT: Here's a DIY ic sprayer that uses water.

I might have to pick up a spare washer tank and rig me up one of those. 8)

Yep, I made the plans post last year too.

I was going to try and make one for cheap, say under $50, if that's even possible.  That link is helpful too, thanks.  Maybe in combination with a manual fan switch, this could be helpful on hotter days.  At the track or even sitting in traffic.

I am also thinking of heat wrapping the upper IC pipe, that seems to get hot after use, especially in the summer.

BTW, I like your new sig!

On someone else's car  , back when that was all I worked on   I just filled the windshield washer bottle with a 50%/50% water and alcohol and re-routed the water tube to the front with a check-valve (!!!!)hooked to a brake line with very small holes aimed at the front of the intercooler, holes on a 45 degree spray pattern run the full length of the intercooler (check for fan clearance!!!), ran the wires for the pump into the car and was much cooler when needed.  Some thoughts, no spraying while sitting still, water might get to tire/lose traction, and at the track, will get you kicked off the line if the guys see you peeing on the road .  As you go down the track, alcohol will help water evap quickly enough to not mess the other racers, long as you don't dump a ton, which you don't need to bathe it, a light coating is desired to achieve the value of the latent heat of evaporization in cooling your intercooler, its not the water that cools it so much as when it evaporates, and that is where the alcohol helps, just put some on your arm and blow on it, damn cold!!!

Actually I need to update that!  I used a solenoid instead of a check-valve, just need something in there that will hold back the water once the pump is shut off at the same time or all the water will siphon out

you can run the windshield washer spayer to the ic. just go to auto zone and get a conecter and some real small line and your set that what i use and it makes a noticable difference. it also drop amlost a tenth off my e/t. fill the tank with ice a water and it's good to go.
