hey i was just wondering about how many 5-speed TGP's we have on the board....and im trying to get a feel for what kinda work this would be (a 282 swap)! also what did you pull your 282 or 284 out of, and how much did you spend total??
p.s. if anyone has a write up or link to one for the manual swap pm me or post....but im still interested to see how many there actually are on this forum, cant be many!
3.1 Turbo in a 1992 Cutlass Supreme here :)
got my 282 from a 1989 GP SE 2.8
engine from a 1990 TGP (salvage title parts car)
$200 for everything 5-speed related
had the 282 Fully rebuilt for under $1000 CDN
its about a week from hitting the roads, lots of small changes needed to to the swap but nothing major
access to a U-Pull Wrecking yard is a big help for the odds and ends you may need
I think there are 3 or 4 TGP conversions out there.

I got my 284 out of a '91 Cutlass Supreme from Harry's U-Pull It, and I paid about $150 for everything(trans, axles, shifter, shifter cables, flywheel, master/slave cylinder, pedal, etc.). I'm the only one using a 284 that I've ever heard of but there may be someone else out there. I got the rest of my parts from misc. 5 speed GPs(shifter plate/boot). My TGP looks 100% stock and the only way you could tell that it wasn't always a manual is that I have the wrong key cylinder.
trans, and other parts-$150
clutch(stock 284)-$200
axle(only passenger side)-$50
new clutch master cylinder(from GM)-$100
misc. GP parts-$50
I wish I had bought a better clutch, but I was pretty poor at the time due to spending too much on X-mas. I used a stock 284 clutch which is supposed to be rated for 300 ftlbs, but it already slips a little when I beat on it for a while. :x
Like Davis, my 3.1 turbo will be in a Cutlass 5-speed. 89 International to be exact. It's already a 5-speed so I won't be spending any money for that stuff. Unless you count the $600 I spent on the car. All I put into it was new exhaust which I pulled from my TGP. And e-brake cables.
another 3.1 Turbo 5-speed Cutlass here. the engine came from a Turbo STE and the trans is from an '89 Grand Prix SE. the transmission was given to me.
...and soon to be the new owner of god910's black TGP 5-speed 8)
As soon as I can find a parts car I'll have one in my STE, but until then I think there is only everyone that already posted or is listed above. I can't think of anyone else, other than Marcus18 (I think thats the screen name?) on the TGP boards that just finished his 5 speed TSTE.
Anyone know where I can get a cheap 5 speed w body parts car?
