Title: tuning TGP ecm for 3.4dohc
Post by: Kohburn on April 25, 2005, 07:40:15 PM
Hey guys -I haven't posted much but figured this place would be a great resource for me -- I currently have a 95 grand prix 3.4 dohc engine swapped into my 86 Fiero runnign on a 90 TGPecm .. the auto tranny has been disabled for using the manual trans in my car..  and I had someone burn a chip that was tweaked to help it run the 3.4..

currently it will barely idle and is running pig rich..  I hooked up my actron scantool and wrote down a few of the recorded data logs.

when engine OFF

Throttle % 1  - TPS volt .52
Throttle %100 - TPS volt 4.41
Spark Adv -4
MAT 69*
02S (mv) 4
MAP 1.59
MAF 0
INJ pw 15
IAC 105
ESC 21
exh RICH
A/F desired 11

running with foot on throttle keeping it from stalling

RPM 1625
TPS v 1.04
throttle % 16
spark advance -4
02S mv 852
exhaust RICH
MAT 72*
MAP v 1.22
MAF 49
integrator 128
INJ pw 4
IAC possition 118
ESC 2
A/F desired 10

after goosing it

RPM 6000
TPS v .52
throttle % 1
spark advance 0
02S mv 804
exhaust RICH
MAT 70*
MAP v 0.35
MAF 33
integrator 128
INJ pw 0
IAC possition 118
ESC 19
A/F desired 13
knock ret 0

not sure exactly what info to gather to help diagnose the running WAY rich

any advice you can offer would be great.

Whoa!   That would be rad if you could put a TGP ecm in and make that work with a t25 turbo. I am assuming it is not N/A.
Who did your chip? Jeff M.? He is the one making them for almost everyone here. Good luck for now.

DarthFiero from pennocks fiero forum - he also has a website.. http://www.gmtuners.com/  --- right now I'm just trying to get it runnign real well NA before I start adding in boost - the TGP's factory wastegate solenoid control settings are perfect for a stock 3.4dohc with an intercooler and should put it at almost 300 whp with some tuning.

may as well post an update since I started this thread -

I pulled the TPS and MAP plugs to test them with a multi meter and now the MAP sensor is reading 2.31 v with the engine off and key on and its throwing a code 34 (low map voltage)  so I have a feeling that my brand new map sensor may be part of the problem with it running so rich and randomly stalling -
But i finally ran the engine long enough today to get it into closed loop and it sounded good - the knock sensor didn't go crazy like the first couple times i fired it up so it must be learning a bit.  its getting better - hopefully it'll be flawless NA for me to take it up to the big Carlisle show in a couple weeks -
Then I can start designing the grand national based turbo setup, which once the electronics are worked out is the easy part, i can weld just fine, tuning is new to me

haven't been over here in a while but figured i'd update a little..  the T04E turbo is going in this week with a large intercooler.

Any of your guys familiar with www.MOATES.net?  or used the AUTOprom or ostrich in your tgp's?

I'm about ready to just get an SAFC to do the last fine tuning of the fuel tables

I cain't remember if I ever replied to this. I think I had on the 60degree site.

But on the fist post ..the fist map voltage you have indicates that you have about 10in of vacume with the engine off. I don't think even if you live in the rockies..it would be this low of a voltage when the engine is off.
On the other post you said you tested it and it now has 2.31V..which is just about right with the engine off.

Yup..could be the map..could be the wiring. MAP/TPS and MAT share power. Are you using the TGP/Wbody wiring? or the TDC wiring and spliced to TGP/Wbody ECM and wiring?

O2 seems OK..but if your using the TDC heated O2...you need to ground the O2s ground to the motor or battery ground or even ECM ground...or to ECM low/o2 input. I would just put a new one wire TGP O2 in there and be done with it.

Also..are you using the TDC ignition controll modual? The low resulution crank position sensor (two wires/one ground strap) should be conneted to it..not the regular crank sensor(3wires and connected to cam sensor). Again..I don't know how you wired the car.

Other than this..did you use the injectors specified for what he tuned it for? IE..If tuned for 24..use 24s,,if 35..use 35s ect.. Also..multec or pintle? Are you using low impendace or high impendance injectors. SHould be high. 4-6ohms is low, 12-14 is high.

For whats its worth..I think the moats is better.  I have a SAFC-II..and it doens't do jack for timming. Moats lets you play with the whole chip code.  Timming/fuel/ fan on/off/high speed/boost cutoff/ boost controll...and many more.

its all wired up and idles pretty good now - nothing seems out of the ordinary - the chip was modified to use the stock injectors.

Been talking to a guy on 60degree that has similar setup running GTP injectors so I've picked up a set and amd going to get the BIN file from him.

the last thing i want is to lean out up top
