Title: Paint your exhaust heat shields!!!!
Post by: mfewtrail on October 03, 2005, 09:24:46 PM
Just a little something to make things look better. My car has 73K on it and the original paint on the exhaust tip heat shields had come off on both sides of the exhaust tips.  Anyways, I removed them(two 10mm bolts holding them on), sanded them down, primed them, and finally painted them(I used a standard "gloss black" paint since I already had some here...I did not clearcoat them because I didn't want them that shiny. They're barely noticeable now, but look 10x better than before.)

Before(took this picture earlier this year, the car was wet since I just sprayed it off at a local carwash...it was also a lot dirtier than usual  ).

After(not the best picture, I'll add a better one later this week or sometime when I have time to clean the car).

I used standard automotive paint on the tips, I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but I guess I'll find out. I've had the same type of standard paint under the hood on my other GP for nearly two years now with no issues, so I suppose it should hold up just fine. If you're worried about it staying on there for a long time, just pick up some high heat engine enamel or something similar to use if you paint your shields.

Looks good!   :)   Those bolts will probably be rusted on pretty good.

Unless your car came from the South/you live down South.  My car has been in South Carolina/Georgia all it's life. Thanks.  8)
