I got another starter today and found out a few things. you can look at the condition of the starter and quickly find out if you want it or not. first do the shake test. hold it by each end and shake it to see if the shaft has any play. :lol: :lol:
.....then look for rust on the terminals and the copper threaded stud should look clean. they can be total junk and sitting on the shelf for sale at the j/y. I am friends with everyone that works there so they let me go back in the warehouse to take my pick of the parts on the shelves 8) Actually I cook lunch for them and deliver it to them because they all order from my restaurant.
Anyway like 3 out of 5 starters I saw there rattled and appeared worn out. buyer beware, they cost $125 to rebuild them at a good shop.
the first one they gave me rattled and I took it back in there to see other ones. thats when I discovered you could tell if they are good or not.
What does a 2005 Impala 3400 starter go for there?
That is the starter I am looking for.

Considering I am nervous everytime I get back in the car on warms days after parking it for only 5 minutes...it is time for a new starter! :wink: If yours works and has a different sound than the clunky TGP stock starter I will be putting it in.
I think it is amuzing though how people look at it as a weight savings. Not like you will gain anything from that little of weight. Now if you want to lighten the front of a TGP/TSTE put a 5-speed in it. 105lbs is a BIG difference! :wink: :lol: 8)

You would not believe how much some people would do to drop that 7lbs. or whatever it is. Some people cut off bolts to save weight! Because if you do enough things that save 7lbs. each, in the end it adds up.

Well I can see it if you are a full on racer (drag, road course, off-road) but for a daily driver...not what I see myself doing unless I need to edge someone out by 00.20 seconds and even then I will just add boost! :wink: :lol: 8)
well the TGP is more of an overall performance street driver. and less of a straight line racer. some may actually sacrifice high boost for quick boost and drivability. also have you ever seen any of those import turbo 5 speeds try to keep traction and everything to mesh like it should? It is easy to see why the TGP does so much more with less boost and an auto tranny. so smooth,yet powerful. so many other ways to improve it, why worry about changing the tranny? that is honestly the main reason for ME not doing it. but to each his own.
I hear you. It is a matter of what each person prefers. Me I HATE auto trannys. Mostly because I know nothing about repairing them other than it is EXTREMELY expensive.
Now quick boost to get off the line is ok...but if it runs out of breath at 4000RPM and an upgrade will allow it to breath freely all the way to 6000RPM...I will be on that in Spring. It will be very amuzing to see the times I put down in spring and the responses people on here have. I guess I should build my motor and have 3 more on hand to ship out right away to others who want to be in the 11's! :wink: :lol: 8)
Ill take 1 :!: let me know how much :lol: then I will get a 5 speed just so I can race lemans style at super high speeds on a race track. man that would be so fun. you know thats the best reason because you can probably set a record for the highest top speed that way. 150 is about as fast as you could go in an auto. 5 speed I dont know, probly keep boosting for a while.
Kicking a dead horse...maybe. But a starter from a 2005 Impala 3400 motor will both bolt directly on and provide the same amount of juice needed as the stock starter, as wll as being smaller?
