Title: OFFICIAL Formula One Thread
Post by: TGPilot on March 01, 2006, 12:57:54 PM
Changed the Title Kenny: Dave

I am looking forward to this race season! I am so tired of NASCAR around every corner. Now I can sit back and watch a race and not feel like my IQ has dropped 10 points everytime a commentator opens his mouth.

Well this year should be interesting with the changes they are making to the rule book. I have a feeling that next year or even in the course of this year there will be an allowance of turbo-chargers again. FIA has to run the fine line of safety and spectator enthusiasm. If the cars are only off pace by 2 or 3 seconds then it may not be noticable...but if they gap much more people will scream that they are too slow...including the drivers.

Oh well...I doubt this will get much as far as replies, but I am ready for the fun to begin without losing my intelligence!    8)

QuoteEngines
For 2006, engines are reduced in size from the previous 3-litre V10s to 2.4-litre V8s. The aim is to reduce costs and improve safety. With similar engine speeds, the change is expected to cut peak power by around 200bhp, which in turn is likely to add around three to five seconds to lap times at most circuits. The FIA may allow some teams to use 2005-spec V10s if they do not have access to competitive V8. The FIA will enforce a rev limit on any V10s to ensure performance is comparable with that of a V8.

Tyres
After a season?s absence, tyre changes during races return to Formula One in 2006. The thinking behind this is that the reduced engine size will offset any performance gain. Drivers also have access to slightly more tyres than in 2005 - seven sets of dry-weather, four sets of wet-weather and three sets of extreme-weather. Drivers must make a final choice of dry-weather compound ahead of qualifying.

Weekend schedule
In a slight change to the Grand Prix weekend format, Saturday morning now features a single, one-hour practice session, as opposed to two, 45-minute sessions. It takes place between 1100 and 1200. Qualifying is an hour later than before, commencing at 1400

My Fellow countryman JV has one more chance with the new BMW team so i hope he goes out on a strong note.

Boring!! What an understatement! I watched about 30 minutes of Daytona because it is Daytona...but I fell asleep on it.  Woke up after the race was over and didn't care to see who won. I knew SPEED TV would have more than enough post race coverage that I would see waiting for WRC and Motorcycle racing to come on.

If someone was to make another channel for racing...the way SPEED used to be with a huge array of motorsports coverage they would be ranked #1 within hours of it's first airing. I sent an email to SPEED asking when they were going to change their name again. They went from Speed Television to SPEED. I asked when they were changing to NASCAR. They never answered!

Seems like OLN (Outdoor Living Network) is covering more and more motorsports as time goes by. When I was in Hungary they had Motor TV. It was awesome! It is an EU company and they cover everything from World Motorsports to local racing clubs. Anything with tires and a motor was on there. That is something they need ot do in the US for sure! 8)

We shall see. I have a feeling the die-hard fans like me will look past the BS of last year and push on. Want to take bets now on the spectator turn out though? I say between 40 and 50,000 this year.

I wanted to go to the F1 Indy race...but it will be too close to schedule because of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. PPHC is the Saturday of the F1 weekend at Indy and I am very active in the PPHC every year. Would be a shame to miss my annual breath of morning air on the side of Pikes Peak at 12,000 feet above sea-level. There is nothing like it in the world to me. To see the sun come up from the east across the valley. Hearing the cars running up the mountain on qualifying day...oh man it gets my blood moving just thinking about it!    8)

That is what my new HDTV DVR is for! Bought it specifically so the wifey and I won't miss another F1 race like we did last year. She was a huge fan 2 years ago when Baumgartner was racing. He was a Hungarian driver...he never did very good...but hell he sure was trying!  8)

Man is Kimi the shit or what??? 22nd all the way up to third by the end!! :o

I like the tire changing allowed again. Makes for a bit more interesting strategies and allows Shumi to get up towards the front. Was funny to hear the commentators on Speed say that many felt that last years tire rule was to keep Shumi from winning!

Did you see the Cosworth V8's? 20,000 RPM!!! For race reliability they said they necked down the Cosworth's to 18,500-19,000, but next race they may open them full rev's.

It is great to sit down with my wife and watch motorsports we both enjoy! :D

Obviously you didn't see the end of todays race. Pretty exciting. JJ is the kid of the day. Matt just didn't have enough.

Yea some of it is boring but the start and the restarts are pretty good. This finish today was excellent although I don't like G W C endings.

Sorry Jud...I will never be a fan of NASCAR. I will watch when they run a road course...but even then I laugh at their laptimes compared to what the motorcycles run and other forms of racing. Best part is when I see a NASCAR driver get out of the car at the end of a race and they are one big blob of sweat! Now I understand that closed cockpit cars are hot inside...but you don't normally see the Rolex champion drivers that wet...a bit more effort to move the wheel in both directions, work your feet, and experience lateral G's that you need to brace for. ;) 8)

Renault 1/2??? Oh boy. Is this the next Ferrari manufacturers race?

Kimi was frikkin ROBBED AGAIN!!! This is really BS for him. He is by far a superior driver to the rest, and two weeks in a row his ass passed his front!! :icon_evil:

Dave do you guys get WRC up there? Speed no longer shows it...I heard rumors that the Outdoor Channel was going to pick it up mid season...but I am missing my WRC FIX!! :icon_cry:

Yea that's about the way I am with FI and Indy cars. After 15 min or so I go get the fly swatter to try and kill those bee's running around my house. Wife says why do they sound like a sewing machine. :icon_rolleyes:

I watch it about the same as NASCAR. I got rid of speed a year ago. The same thing over and over was boring regardless of what type of racing it was because chances were I had seen it.

So the bee's are going to be out soon :icon_question: I better tune up my swatter. ;)

Well see you guys at the O'Reilly Nationals. I am going tommorrow to watch the pro mods and sportsman run. Won't be going Sunday for all the big guns. Getting tired of them cause that's all they show on ESPN.

I don't know what model of Mercedes it is...but I have seen some tire smoke off the fronts when they put it hard into a turn!!

LOOK AT SPEED! Chasing Shummy! If I was in Speed's shoes right now I would have a hard time seeing where I was going with the tears of joy welled up in my eyes! Tell me that would not be the highlight of any rookie driver...shummy in your sights and gaining on him! :icon_eek: :worshippy:

QuoteScott Speed has been handed a post-race penalty of 25 seconds for paying insufficient attention to yellow flags in Sunday?s Australian Grand Prix. That dropped the American to 11th place and thus lost him, and the Scuderia Toro Rosso team, their first world championship point.

Moving up to eighth and gaining a point as a result was Red Bull?s David Coulthard, who claimed after the race that Speed had passed him under yellow flags. The stewards also fined Speed US$5000 for use of abusive language to another competitor, thought to be Coulthard, during the post-race hearing.

In a separate incident, Takuma Sato, who finished 12th for Super Aguri, was reprimanded by the stewards for ignoring blue flags.

DC is a frikkin' has-been. Does not surprise me he called foul on a young driver who was obviously faster than him! Makes me laugh...I bet Speed called him a F*CKING HAS-BEEN and why he was penalized $5000!

Unreal! My wife said that on a Hungarian webpage that Ralph Shummy was under investigation also for passing under the safety car flags...did you hear anything about that?

Not a bad race....and way fast!!

I dunno if anyone can contend with Alonzo......he seems like a good guy but i hate Renaut and there manager of operations Flavio Vitori (Alonzo's manager also) so BOOOOO to them.

Im pulling for my countryman JV and he did get ONE point today

Kimi and Mclaren also but he is so mad about the reliability he said in a press confrence he has given up on the championship due to that fact.

CANADA is the next race!!!!!!!

Damn i wish i could go..

Alonzo is going to McLaren next year. I am curious to see if Kimi still has the issues next year or if Alonso shows him what is what in the McLaren's... :icon_eek:

I HATED THE FRIKKIN ANOUNCERS THEY HAD ON ABC SPORTS!!!! THEY SUCKED SO BAD I TURNED THE VOLUME OFF! :icon_evil:

ya i missed the TSN/ITV live race this morning and watched the replay on CBS and it was the worst.....if those guys could have sucked Alonzo's D**K I'm sure they would have.

was so one sided and biased i turned the volume off half way through

Speed shows qualifying but not the race??? i see the qualifying listed on my Satt guide but never the actual live race??

thats the best coverage out there for it IMO

Next year will be a huge shake-up with the drivers and teams. Kimi (possible) to move to Renault or Ferrari. Alonso over the McLaren. New drivers moving into the lower teams.

Makes me wonder if MS has decided to take it easy in his final year to live long enough to enjoy the millions he has earned and drive the Ferrari's he has been given?

Post by: TGPilot on July 30, 2006, 08:50:42 PM
I heard on SPEED today that something was severely wrong with both the Renaults. Renault normally has an open feed on their radio communications and they closed it today. Possibly some sort of defect in the chassis and they were forcing the drivers to take it easy.

Anyone see the Champ Car race today? Douche Bag Paul Tracey pulled a true idiot move toady. That driver he took out went after him and there was a fist fight. Paul is an asshole and needs to have his bell rung!
