Title: chip related?
Post by: tyroelite on March 04, 2006, 12:37:36 AM
is there anything in the chip anywhere that would cut boost (open wastegate completely i'm assuming) at right around 4000rpm? Every time I hit 4 grand no matter what level the boost is at then, it drops down to where it would be at idle.  Once the tranny shifts down, it starts making boost again no problem.

When it shifts it will make boost to 4000RPM again then flatten out again?

Answer to your question is yes and no...if something is wrong it will kill boost. Too much knock, too little fuel, improper TPS signal, etc. etc. etc!

Do you have a way to log your car? It will be much easier to see what is up with logs. 8)

tyro-

if you don't figure it out in the next month or so I will have a registered version of Datamaster, we could meet up and log it, as I am right on the PA border in Binghamton.  Wouldn't be too far of a drive for you.

i dont have any way of logging at this point unfortuantly...

Binghamton isn't far at all, that'd be cool to meet up even if i do get it figured out perhaps.  Only ever seen one other TGP in person.

and yes, when t shifts it will make boost to 4000 again and then cut out.  I'm not getting any CES lights at this point.  I'm also wondering how my spark plugs are looking b/c ive noticed a bit of a backfire popping under accelleration.  I'm going to pull a few tonight and see how they look.

If you are experiencing a flutter under boost then you will need to do plugs and wires. Just boost dropping off is something else. Could be knock with your bad wires. Could be a lot of things but the easiest way to see inside your motor is with datalogging software... 8)

well I haven't used the software yet, I have the trial waiting to experiment with.  As soon as this weather breaks I am going to pull the car out, change the oil, flush the coolant, fix the a/c, and tie up a few loose ends.  Then it's on the body work hopefully by the end of the summer..

but regardless I will play around with it, see if I can make it work and then if needed, when I'm sure I won't make a fool of myself, we can datalog your car.

cool.  sounds good. I'm gonna ask around and see if i can find someone locally with hardware that will work as I have a laptop which seems to be the expensive part of the project.  I've wanted to get into logging/chip tuning for a while now so perhaps this is what will give me that extra jolt. I was planning on pulling plugs tonight but i forgot my friend had a show I was going to so I didn't get to it.  Perhaps tomorrow.  I'm thinking part of my problem could be my rear plugs/wires are messed up b/c i had my EGR hose broken for so long and it spewed a lot of black carbon around on everything.

on a side note, is there a good way to tell if the wires are good?  ohm meter or something perhaps?
