I removed my turbo and crossover the other day......
im having my EGT bung welded into the neck of the crossover, just before the turbo flange.
and while i have that bugger out im going to wrap it with DEI header wrap.

and then spray it with this

with no covering for the crossover that damn thing heads the engine bay up SO much its scary...
maybe you TGP guys may not have it as bad due to the hood louvers but its a big issue for me without any.
anyway thats my plan and when i get it all back together i have this DEI kit for the Turbo Turbine.

anyway just thought i would share :icon_biggrin:
In the summer I can see the heat waves rolling out of the louvers. I opened my louver drain pans as much as possible to allow for more airflow.
I wonder what it will be like under there when the big turbo is installed.
nice. where do you order the DEI stuff from?
i've noticed that if anything my Cutlass seems to run too cool. usually when i'm driving around i only get 5 bars lit up on the UB3 temp gauge. it definately runs cooler now then when it was NA. never seems very hot under hood either.
Ebay i have bought most of it from actually
much cheaper than retail from "speed" shops
I don't seem to have an issue with engine temps, just radiant heat under the hood....
just a precaution against the heat...
pretty good idea, Im likin the heatblanket, mine looks like shit! whats the site for those?
I have never been a fan of turbo blankets. They are made of toxic asbestos which will kill you if you breathe the invisible fibers. always use a resperater when you go to yank out the blanket. take it right over to the garbage and throw it away. rinse off the dust that remains with a hose. never wrap a turbo it holds in the heat and too much heat will crack the turbo housing. all you do is heat wrap stuff directly around the turbo, pipe and egr hose. You ever notice anything hot like that that gets wrapped will crack from heat stress? x-over pipes, turbos, egr hoses. use your senses to realize the obvious. the heat must escape.

(note: the shield is made of non-asbestos mineral fibers and should not pose a health risk but to be safe, avoid breathing any dust generated).

yea thats what I was trying to say, but if its like in the garage and the sun hits it you can see the clouds of sparkly dust floating through the air. kinda like fiberglass dust. once it gets in your lungs it doesnt want to come out.
Yea either way it cant be good to breath clouds of dust off it
Ya i dunno what that stock turbo blanket is made from and i threw mine out long ago.....
the new one i have is made from Fiberglass and aluminum weave.
whoa, the price matched the date!
hahahah never noticed...keen eye
i rounded it off actually $419 is what it cost, so yesterdays date :icon_cool:
So you say a hard cast? Will it allow for the bellows to flex? I wonder how it will handle the heat?
Looks sweet though man!
So you will have EGT, WB02, and emulation? I HATE YOU!! :icon_evil: ;)
ya the bellows will flex i don't have them wrapped to tight for that reason, there is room to move.
yes you should hate me
:joke: :nana:
lookin good Dave :icon_biggrin: bet you can't wait to drive that Cutty!
TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!!!!!
was so nice this week weather wise it hurts to see it sitting in the garage
I've been looking at picking up some of that wrap, and the turbo blanket as well.
Did you get your DEI parts from here Davis? http://stores.ebay.com/Hiperparts-On-Line
Since I need to pull the turbo and x-over off to check/replace some things, I figured I may as well wrap some stuff up to keep the temps down.
Are you going to wrap the downpipe too?
Ya Luke thats the seller i got my Header Wrap from, I bought my spray from a speed shop here in Ontario due to that seller not being able to ship rattle cans accross the border.
i bought my DEI turbo kit last year on ebay but never got it on yet...
as for the DownPipe im going to wrap the part where it connects to the Turbine and leave the stock SS braided section alone as its insulated under that anyway..
UPS is delivering my turbo back tomorrow and its about time.....i forget what they look like already.
should be up and running TOMORROW!!!! Woot!!!!
Right on man! I know you have been chomping at the bit to drive her again!

Wow that looks sweet. Is that a brand new T25 or did you upgrade? Did you request the highly polished finish?
It was a brand new T25 Garrett unit i bought off ebay last fall (had less than 500 miles on it) got and all that was wrong was it was blowing oil out the seal into the DP so said the owner selling it on ebay.
i sent it away for a looky loo to make sure thats all that was wrong with it and had new seals put in, it has the polished compressor upgrade and the HPC coated turbine also. :icon_cool:
and some minor internal upgrades not really worth mentioning ;)
got it all installed tonite less the IC pipes and R&R some melted hose loom's for the MBC which is tomorrow's task first.
Then Program my O2 sensor and get the emulator running with Tunerpro :icon_eek:
OHHHHHHHH PRETTY!! :icon_eek:
Very pretty indeed :) I'm sure that will look quite nice in there, all that black accenting with big shiney turbo :)
Oh hey, I did have a question, since you did the EGT probe in the crossover which we are thinking, how thick is the crossover? Is it thick enough to just drill and tap or is it a must to have it welded? Either way is no problem, just curious....
i tried the drill and tap but was not "good enough" IMO so i welded the probe bung it came with on to ensure it was done right.
Alright, that is what I was curious about then, we welded the bung in a different car is why I was wondering, I'll get a new one then, no big deal
Oh and my Hex Cap Bolts for the DP worked like a Charm :icon_razz:
