thats not how it mounts :icon_confused: is that even a TGP? it mounts like that but lower on the bumper. looks close enough to me though, they are kind of hard to line up perfect. I had to drill holes for mine so I know trust me. it didnt line up perfect so I might have to adjust it slightly. but you should see a few of those grooves above the plate if its mounted right.

Yes, that's how it mounts up, and no it's not TGP. It's still the first Gen B4U, thus the front plate mounts the same.
Every other first gen B4U car I've seen had it mounted there as well.

hmm i wonder if i should just carry my plate with me and see how long it takes for a cop to notice, my friends 2000 GPSE hasnt had the front plate on it since she had it, and shes never gotten in trouble for it.

Thats exactly what I said :icon_lol: a week later, a cop flips a bitch in the middle of traffic just to see why I dont have a license plate on. :icon_eek:

I swear to god its a little lower than that on mine. I would post a pic but its not really important.

Just backing up Luke on saying that's the actual factory mounting position. ;) My BYP kitted '93 has the stupid ass plate holder in that position. :icon_rolleyes: I would remove it, but the two holes that are drilled into the bumper have actually bulged out over the years.

so the plate is supposed to be right over the left turn signal?  seems kinda wierd they would do that.

btw, did the factory put the mounting holes in the bumper or was that something the dealership would do after they got the cars?  i was wondering if maybe it depended on what state the car was sold in regarding local laws requiring a front plate.  my STE had no holes at all so i just put the plate in the dash.

My god it is a license plate bracket folks... we are not mounting a FMIC! :icon_rolleyes:  Get the bracket and hold it in place...where does it fit properly?

Here are the factory holes from My TGP bracket that was sent to Canada because I give a flying crappola if it is illegal to run without a front plate in Colorado!! ;)

Crazy    That is where the holes are in my TSTE too :icon_cool: and same; with no plate, doubt the cops will chase me from the front :icon_mrgreen: though same stupid law here its supposed to be there :icon_evil:

I'm really not sure whether the dealerships or the factory put the plate brackets on. In my case, the bracket on my '93 doesn't make much sense since Georgia doesn't require front license plates(they didn't back in 1993 when the car was purchased either. My parents bought it at a dealership about 20mins from where I currently live).

The reason alot of states require front license plates is not because of visibility, its for POP radar, followed by standard radar. They are instructed to aim for license plates because it gives the best reflective surface for a acurate tag. I once was a cop, and thats the way it was explained to us..

you mean Laser or LIDAR speed detection right???

cause no way does a radar gun K X or KA band needs to specificly hit a licence plate

A laser/LIDAR gun yes due to the narrow beam and the cops fav is to hit the most flat surface on a vehicle which is 9 times out of 10 the front plate.

regular radar POP or not has such a WIDE beam or spectrum and its so reflective it don't matter if you have a front plate or not, it its like you come around a corner and a cop has a radar x k or ka beamed at you the closer you get the more accurate the speed detection due to the whole front of the car reflecting the radar field.

your hit with laser/LIDAR your F**Ked plain and simple thats instant and accurate.

but I'm sure you meant that in this post.  :icon_razz:

Not sure what I meant actually, I know it has something to do with speed detection. I gave up the crooked ways of the police some 10 years ago...

Any flat surface is going to help acquire a signal better than not, every little bit helps in getting a faster and confirmed reading before the target can lop off a few mph (and those few can make or break most chances of a ticket/citation i.e. 34 in a 30 or 37 or more in a 30 mph zone), even though instant-on radar is fast, there is still time needed for the unit to get a confirmed reading, one that will hold up in court against the usual claims of radar's old weaknesses, newer ones are faster so maybe in pontiac6ksteawd's day this was more important :icon_cool:.  Running a Stealth negates the K bands quite well (so few X bands in the states its not worth mentioning any more) but most have all gone with the many choices in the KA band region and no jammer works there yet.  Laser jammers at the plate is one trick but they also aim for head lights with their chrome reflective backing so even then that counter measure is not perfect.  I ran a Stealth in Michigan and it made those road-side displays go blank, that was fun.  But I always drive per the road conditions, even then if the road is empty, I don't need to set a new top speed record .  Knowing a number of State Troopers and City Cops, as well as reading the books at the State's Law Library (on lunch break  ;) ) adds some interesting info to what is most common in car magazines.  Lucky me living in LA (Lansing Area  , state capitol) the Michigan State Troopers and Michigan State University joined years ago to form an organization (MRTF) to set the standards for all radar equipment; testing, validation and certification, as well as instructor training, for all states in the US, so, few cops in our state were lame on the ins and outs of speed monitoring, you play you pay :icon_twisted: and seldom got away with it .

feel free to make a post about Radar and Laser/LIDAR as its one of my hobbies  ;)

Oh..so it goes over the drivers side reflector. That makes no sense.

In TX, you also have to have a front plate. I've decited to just have the front plate and braket in the back seat, If a cop pulls me over, I'll say they fell off. Just a warning if they even pull me over. This is me, dare you not try if they are troopers or suberbual cops trying to meat a quoata.
