Yea that doesnt sound like a good idea, overdrives a really weak gear...

I think it was 128 rev limited 3rd gear...and if you part throttle it to where it stays in OD, I think Jeff got to around 153 or so?  Not sure, I don't even dare 95 in mine, so I can't tell ya....I have no rev limiter so who knows I what I would get?

120, 125, or 128. I do not have my stock .bin file to confirm.

Not a wise idea to try to do a top speed run in OverDrive. When you come to a stop you might end up with the same fate as others....having Reverse and 1st gears locked together.

I'm picturing the valence flopping around violently in the wind and no center strap to hold it secure. ummm... I think I would okie foam the back side of it first and center strap it. then you might stand a chance.

ya about that Herb

i could push it more but RPM's were pretty high and don't wanna blow the engine at 5000 RPM's on a pushrod

There were guys years ago claiming to have hit 150mph. I believe they had the TGP's with the earliest version of the 4T60HD transaxle that would allow 4th gear @ WOT though.

I went almost 150mph in the Lumina.  My friend was following me in his LT1 Z28 (modded with heads/cam/headers/nitrous/etc..., so he had no issues keeping up obviously) and said that when he went around me right before we let off his 150mph speedo was buried.  To him he said it was at least 145, probably closer to 150 though.  It was WELL into 4th gear.  Probably not the healthiest thing for it, but its still going strong to this day as far as I know.

There was also another time I went similar speeds but there was nobody pacing me so I can only guess the speed.  My foot was planted for QUITE a while so I must've been going at least as quick as when the Z28 was pacing me.  (got on the freeway with my foot planted and didn't let off until about a mile before I got off the freeway, the exits are 10 miles apart so thats a good distance)

yeah anymore those speeds freak me out.  i don't think i've had my Cutlass past 100mph since i've turbo'd it.

from the gear/mph calculators i've checked online the W-body Getrag 282 is good for ~156mph at 6000 RPM in 5th gear with 245/50-16's.

I woun't think thats fast on the TGP, unless it  handles like a 80's g-body buick.  I know the GTU is well planted at 120...just before I run out of road.

Now driving my dads caddillac with the loose steering...now that was a rush at 70mph  :icon_eek:
