Title: FINALLY got her RUNNING!!
Post by: killinprixs on July 21, 2006, 07:36:06 PM
Finally had my TGP running today for about 20 minutes (10 minutes at a time).  I used starting fluid and after a couple trys she fired.  It wicked hard to get running tho .  Its still got some 3 year old gas ive been diluting hoping to burn it out.  it runs rough but no motor knocks or anytihng.    It sputters around 1500 (probably the gas).  Turbo is a little stuck at idle.. anything i can do? wd-40?   Im hoping to drop the whole tank at my buddys garage soon.  I dont think it runs well enough to drive.    Also i think the spark plugs are already fouled because it wouldnt start back up the 3rd time.
Im trying to learn about this vehicle and would like some help from you guys.  Hearing that exhaust today made my day and whatever else this thing needs, its worth it.....(unless its the turbo haha)
thank you turbo grand prix forum

what do you mean the turbo sticks at idle... like with the hoses off it spins then doesnt then does???? If so sound like the bearing in it are toast or its not getting oil.

how do i know if the turbo is  getting oil or not?  What is the exact amount of oil for this motor?  i blew through the oil return line and it didnt seem clogged but maybe a little.  If i replace it should i throw out the chrome flex hose connector too?

well, the return line should be replaced, the walls of it can blister off and then swell up and block oil flow, but it will cause oil to back up and spew out the oil seals and be burned. If your turbo isnt spinning freely you have a problem, how much play is in the shaft? Blue smoke? does it lookl ike its contacting the housing? Spin it with your hand, is it Catching?
