How can I tell if I have a wheel bearing going bad?

Noise and Slop

if it moves Back and Fourth not good also noise if its noisy or Squeeks its bad.

and if you have it out  clean it up and Check for worn Spots.

It makes a humming noise... gets louder when you go faster, quieter when slower...etc

I thought these were a sealed for life unit and not meant to take apart?

is it the Front or Rear??

It's the front. Sounds like the drivers side.
