WOW I cut off the cat today.. that thing was plugged... It made a big difference turbo is spooling up faster.. and engine sounds and feels alot stronger.. I know you guys have heard that.. it much better.... KCP

Hi completely cleaned out my cat a few months ago and was impressed with the pickup and growl created..it was impressive! ..and also passed tough NY emissions.
Replaced cat w/ high flow unit, straightnng out the exhaust in the process. Aslo replaced the mufflers with Walker turboS & new rectangular tips. Spoolup time is much better & am gettng 1 more MPG now (23.8 average)

23.8mpg, sounds good, in the city i get maybe 19mpg if i'm lucky, 22 on the highway.
So if I just replace my cat and replace it with some pipe, is that going to make a big enough positive difference in power. I've heared good and bad, some people tell me it won't create enough back pressure, and/or i could screw something up. Should I do it, or just go with something high flow?
From all the articles on exhuast systems i have read, they all agree that back pressure is the enemy of your engine. Anything you can do to increase your exhuast gases velocity will help. But if you put on a manderal bent 5 in exhaust, you may lose performance becuase velocity is lost. Are cars should probaly have between a 2.5 or 3 in exhuast.
In other words putting a straight pipe will increase performance as long it doesn't mess up some of the car's exhuast sensors, (i am not an expert on that so i don't know what would be affected). But i can definately tell you a high flow cat would help.

The waistegate system on turbo creates backpressure too.
The turbo creates enough backpressure that the cat is not needed. You could actually run straight pipes if it were legal.

how many miles does your TGP have? my CS has 178,000 and i want to get rid of my cat or get a Walker cat
