Title: fast idle
Post by: one_fast_prix on September 21, 2006, 05:01:09 PM
this is on my 3.1.  i took my plenum, tb, egr off to swap out injectors.  now the car idles extremely fast.  we're talking like 4 grand.  no vac. leaks.  the plenum's sealed good.  swapped chips.  WTF???  don't think it's tps or iac as it was fine before.

everything is plugged in? (electrical and vacuum)........ PCV hose disconnected from underside of plenum?

Were all the injector o-rings in good shape?

hmmm...whats the "new" chip out of?? Are the injectors known to be good?

the injectors aren't that old and were also tested.  as for the chip, i had someone burn it for me.  both chips worked at least at idle and rpms with 24#'s and then put my 30's in.  now this is where my prob started.

also when i first installed the 30's and had the plenum and everything off.  the idle was very high but more like 3000 instead of 4000 and when i put it in gear it would drop and be fine untill i put it back in park or even neutral.  but now after i took it off again earlier today and replaced some lines, that's when it went to like 4 grand and putting it gear did nothing but stay the same and take off on me while having the brake fully depressed.

This may sound dumb to some people, but since this just fixed my idle on my Camaro 3.4, are the plug wires in the correct order? We messed that up and it was idling at 2200 rpm...

def. not it since i didn't mess with the plug wires.

Did you try cleaning your IAC?

Other than that, do you have a scantool?  My STE was idling high and my scantool told me the TPS sensor was reading 13% throttle.  The ECM saw that the TPS was 13% and adjusted the IAC to what it thought the idle would be with 13% throttle.  So once I fixed that my idle went from like 2200 down to the normal 7-800ish.  Just a possibility.  If you don't have a scan tool, unplugging it should make the idle go down if that is the issue.

shit.  guess that's not it either cause i did try unplugging it earlier.

Did they tune for the 30# injectors? Proper pulse width for the fuel pressure we run?

Do you have a datalogger? What are the IAC counts hovering at? What is the BLM trying to do?

To me it sounds like you have a vacuum leak and a severe one at that.

Time for you to get the carb cleaner out and start spraying the plenum, TB, injector ports, ect ect.

the iac pintles are good also.  someone had mentioned about placing your thumb over a hole when the tb is exposed from the intake, however all i see is an slit opening inside the tb?  also just sprayed around everything.  no leaks.  if it does it while in gear how could it be the iac?

frick!!!  now i just also changed the iac and tps for shits and giggles and NOW the car goes to 5000 rpms on startup.  i can't take the car anywhere as it is.  i don't know what to do with it.

now the update:
earlier i took everything back apart just for shits and giggles. either that or it would've just sit. well again everything was fine, o-rings, injectors seated properly. however the only thing i noticed was the pvc hose end where it actually connects to the pcv was connected, but slightly crooked. put everyting back together and walla.

NEW PROB:
now the car ran rough for a litttle while and eventually leveled off which is expected, but it' still is around 1500.
