Title: Throttle Responce issue... IAC?
Post by: killinprixs on October 06, 2006, 11:30:48 PM
There is a throttle responce issue.  Its pretty fast when it goes but it sputters out for a split second when you rev it quick or take off the line.  When its driving down the road in 3rd gear (or any gear), light acceleration will make the rpms drop and it sputters for a second then shoots down the road after the computer realizes its not going to stall.  Its either almost stalling, sputtering or WOT.  Could it be IAC, plugs, wires, egr hose leak?  I keep checking but i dont think theres a vaccum leak , i know the rear checkvalve hose is on too.  I want new wires but im poor until Weds.  I have spare IAC and TPS.  Thanks a lot and sorry for taking up the problems board...

It sputters/stutters when you are accelarating? or it is like a flat spot in the throttle at one place and it quits like it lost all fuel or spark for a second?

If it is sputtering under accelaration then you have bad wires and plugs and it is losing spark while under load.

If there is one spot in your throttle that it decides to try and quit but recovers then it may be your TPS.

Yea its really bad now. it just cuts out under acceleration and then sputters like its dying right out and i have to feather the gas pedal real quick to get the thing to go. Sometimes when i take off from stop it will cutout and the rpms drop to like 300 and ill feather it and it screams and peels out or it will just stall in the middle of the road.  Im so glad i just made it home .... no inspection and im flying down a 30 keepin the motor gased to get home.  im going to try and swap the IAC and TPS. Im still waiting for payday for the wires and plugs.   Is there anything i need to know about properly installing these?  Which should i try first?  Anyone recommend any plugs and wires for this car that i can get at a local partstore?    Thanks for all help

For plugs & wires, stick to the original AC Delcos.

If you have an Advance Auto, Checker, Kragen, or Schuck's nearby, they carry the plugs & wires(normally stocked).  Wires are $44.94 from there currently(part # 706R).  The spark plugs are AC Delco R42LTS, they should be about $2 per plug.

O'Reillys might also stock the OEM parts, I know they carry some other AC Delco stuff anyways.

Heres what happened.   I changed the IAC and it took like 5 trys to start up.  Car still ran the same, yet i putted the car to a friends house about 5 miles away.  When i drove back the car all of a sudden stopped putting and stalling and actually revs now on full quick throttle. It seems to have fixed itself after being exposed to driving.  There is still a very slight hesitation but thats probably my Egr hose leaking.   Car is quick when it shifts into 2nd before it lets the boost out.   Somtimes around the shift points (especially from stop) it wistles and sounds like all the boost just got dumped and feels real sluggish.  Sometimes it it fast as helll when it shifts.   I know the air filter is old.  The boost gauge looks like its stuck at 0.

first off, do you got new blue silicon couplings for the ic pipes?

and the part # for taylor wires is 74030. any parts store should be able to order them in.

dont buy anything except stainless core silicone 8 mm wires. 10 % less resistence than suppression core wires like the stockers.

taylors are made in USA  and will last forever.

UPDATE
Bosch 02, i hear suck?-still throws the code 45.  Also now throws code 43,  knock sensor?  I dont know where its located yet.   I replaced the IAC with a known working unit and it took the car about 8 miles to suddenly rev the way it was supposed to.  It has had a reliable rev all week except last night it acted up again and i putted the car home, barley made it.  It didnt act up at all today.  I also just replaced lower motor mount and had the trans vacuum T on wrong for weeks.  Finally did all that and wow.  I didnt know these cars were that dam fast...  I finally realized why this car is worth the headaches.
Cant wait to race some punk.
