Title: Mascara'ed my TGP; LOTS OF PICS
Post by: TGP Nick on October 08, 2006, 08:20:54 PM
I was REALLY bored today, so I for lack of a better word "mascara'ed" my headlights and foglights and put on my spare '89 side markers.  It turned out really well; the pictures really don't do it justice.  It looks like it just came from the factory.  :icon_twisted:

On the last few pics there is a storm coming in, and the background is really cool.  You can also see the reflection of the dark clouds on my hood.  :icon_cool:

Hey, Nick, real nice.  What material (mascara) did you use.  Is it some sort of paint, or some kind of tape, or what?

Hey thanks Larry!  I used a black paint marker I bought at Menards.  Like I say the pictures really don't do it justice- they look even better in person.  BTW: I replaced my foglights with new, clear ones since then.  :icon_cool:

Gee, now all the TGP owners will be dashing out to Walmart in the morning.  LOL

I use base coat of 3M, Professional Formula, Perfect-It? Show Car Liquid Wax, Ultra High Gloss Finish

then Swirl Remover in Beige bottle forgot the number

then Meguiar's, The Professional, High Tech Yellow Wax No. 26.

All waxes applied and removed with random orbiting and rotating buffer from PepBoys? for about $20, maybe less.

I wish I had about 20 bonnets for very best job.  Friend said always wash them at laundromat, never at home, and use lots of soap, then rinse well, perhaps one extra cycle with no soap.

I'll be doing my new TGP soon, will probably begin in Jeff's garage, by hand.  It's going to be very cold outside by Wednesday and Thursday.  Brrr...

Putting a machine on some wax may have to wait until Spring 2007, especially since I have cracked ribs and don't need bucking horses or random-m-m-m buffers right now.  : )

When I'm done next Spring, it'll look much better!  : )

Hi, Nick.  : )

To save me a bit of time, I'd like to ask which department at Menard's carries the black paint pen that you used for mascara.

Thanks.

Oh let me see- I bought it about a year ago, so IIRC, they were in the paint section by the spray paint cans.
Title: Thanks, Nick. I'm headed there now. I'll get one for Jeff M as well. : )

I intend to use the paint on a couple of lamps which were probably replacements.

Also, I'm putting a small bag of goodies together for Jeff M. I'll include one of the paint pens, or whatever they call them  : )
Title: My local Menard's is out of black Paint Marker
Post by: Larry M on November 25, 2006, 01:24:56 PM
No luck getting black Paint Marker at Menard's.  They had metallic gold, red, blue, brown, white, and several other colors, but not black.  Product not carried by Home Depot and Murray's Auto Parts store.  I went to both.  Manager in Piant Department at Menard's got irritated because I asked her to reorder.  She wanted me to prepay.  I said it would be foolish not to reorder, since it's obviously the color they sell the most.

I called a manufacturer and they are going to send out a supply of various paint markers for me to try out.

That's nice and saves me driving around looking for black ones.

Who has repainted their door and trunk locks black?  What paint did you use for that??? What paint will come close to original finish; I suppose a spray can, but do I need flat or semi-gloss, or what?  Open to input here.  Thanks.  : )

I had used some "Testers" model paint when I repainted mine.
