Title: Random TGP concerns
Post by: killinprixs on December 23, 2006, 08:37:20 PM
I just have a few questions since im trying to do a couple things.   Is there any way to stop the sunroof from leaking?  Anyone have any luck with this?

Whats the easiest way to disable the EGr completely?  Does anyone make an egr blockoff plate for the stock intake?  How can i disable it in the computer with ease?

I need a new hood,  i was thinking about getting a used hood with no dents and cutting out the louver holes with a cutting wheel.   good idea??

For the sunroof leaking, you can clean the drains around the sunroof.  Just take a long piece of wire and stick it in each drain hole in the front (they are about the size of a pea).  You can check to see if the drains are working by pouring water around the sunroof duct, so the water gets into each drain.  If both drains are working, water should start dripping down behind each of your front wheels.  You can also clean the rear drains using the same method, but they are hard to access, and I have had good luck with just cleaning the front drains.
To disable your EGR, you will need a chip.  A good guy to talk to would be Kenny (TGPilot).
Good luck  ;)

you can also just replace or have the gasket replaced, I dont have the number handy but I know I posted the GM part number in the part number thread.  It's there, check out the thread.

If you are sure the drains for your sunroof are clear, you may have to repair / replace the gasket. Easiest way to check the gasket is after a rain there will be a small puddle on top of the glass somewhere. No puddle = Bad gasket.
Remove the glass from the car, peel off the outer gasket (comes right off), and wire brush the metal frame around the glass to remove the rust. Spray with a rust neutralizer, then paint. If you're gonna reuse the old gasket take a screwdriver and remove all the rust from inside. Get some black silicone sealant and fill up the seam in the gasket. When you re-install the gasket use clamps to hold it tight to the glass.

Hey thanks for the help.  I've figured out what im finally doing with this car.   Bottom end, all bearings, seals, and rings.  Should i use stock pistons? I've seen a picture of a TGP with shattered piston so im not sure to reuse them.  Im also buying brand new 3.1 heads.  Im also replacing cam, sprockets and chain.  Has anyone had any luck with a different cam with 12.5 boost instead of 7.5?  Advantages?    I figure the only thing left to blow is the tranny... but ive got my eyes on a 5 speed.  Thanks again!
