My car has 66k mi and runs great. However when I come to a light, the car emits clouds of smoke which maybe oil. Could this be related to a defective xover? And where do they normally crack? I have replaced the oil return line some time ago and no change. There is NO smoke upon starting. Any ideas? I may sell this car soon due to a new company car.
Thanks, Rob
Its your oil return Line for the Turbo.
Post from someone with the same problem:
Quote from: TGPRobNYHi guys...I replaced the hose with a flexible oil/fuel type ($4 ft) and it runs fine now, even though the original looked fine, apparently when warm it collapsed internally. You will find that "hydraulic hose" is difficult to work with due to its stiffness and ability to slide over the ridges on the metal lines. Good luck everyone and thanks for your input!
If Idbeast is around try contacting him, he usually has a stock of the return line on hand and will send you some in a reasonable time frame.
Good luck,
Thomas
Uh, I think the post from someone with the same problem is the same guy here. He stated he already replaced the line.
Where is the smoke coming from? Under the hood? Could be a xover, or it could be fuel related (injectors, fuel pressure regulator etc)
I've seen "new" parts go bad after just a few weeks...
Here's another angle to this....Is it possible that there is a seal leak in the turbo allowing oil to dump into the exhaust thus creating the smoke? I will remove my new line to inspect it. I pulled some plugs and they are clean, ruling out valve seal/guide problems. Recently the large side hose on the turbo came off and drops of oil were flowing out leading me to believe that there could be a seal leak. I will remove/inspect the oil return line since it's alot easier than pulling the turbo. If it is the turbo, can this be done on a exchange basis with a company? Thanks again guys for all your help, Rob

Oh, most definitely. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something else.[/list]
