Shop said my turbine housing is cracked, compressor wheel shot and wastegate diaphram shot. Rebuild price went from 275 to 800 min. Anyone have good parts or t28 hybrid parts? I should have bought Kuntzies turbo but too late now. thanks
Almost ALL turbine housings on the T25's are cracked
Tell them to ignore it and rebuild it, won't make a diffrence
Really? If they try to weld over the cracks it was only supposed to cost 150 or something....but now they say 800?? The guy originally said a basic rebuild is 275 if there are no cracks and the compressor wheel is in good shape. If i need a new compressor wheel, am i getting charged 500 bucks for balancing? I wouldnt pay that much to have a cracked turbo rebuilt.
welding cast metal is an art and i would better make sure an artist with that skill was doing it
where are you having this done?
what shop?
turbochargers.com in houston tx. Is there any other turbine housing that fits on the crossover??
Who you dealing with at turbochargers. I found Tommy to be the most knowledgable. I would have him price a gt28 with the proper housings. I would think there under 800 by now. All gt25 and 28's with the 4 bolt pattern will bolt to the xover. The turbine side is the one to worry about.
Check with Kenny. He seems to be able to get good prices on turbos. You might also try where Dave got his rebuilt.
How do you know the waste gate leaks?
OK i can get the GT28R but.... how do i modify the downpipe? the guy Tommy said he remembers someone using the gt28r... sleeper, was that you? he said 1 or 2 bolts were drilled into the back of the turbo but he thinks some of the bolts line up already? He also said the intake pipes are going to need alittle mod. He also said id have to get bigger injectors and all that but cant you just burn a chip to use this turbo? Thanks
Yea that was proly me. I bought the first GT 28 out. It was designed for the nIssian twint turbo. had a bolt on inlet and outlet. you don't want that style.
Like I said you want the Gt28 with a hose connection on both the inlet and outlet on the compressor side of the turbo. You want the 5 bolt pattern on the turbine exhaust. You have to grind a slot on one hole only. I can send you a picture of what you have to do.. As for where it bolts to the xover you can't use the same size bolts. The holes on the GT28 are like 7/16 (or the metric equivalint. Drill out the xover to match which will aligh the outlet perfectly. You will have to either drill and tap the turbo or the down pipe for your oxygen sensor. Tools coust about 50. With deposit I'll loan you the tools. Nezt are the fittings which are about 50 for oil and water.
It's a pretty easy install. Drilling ad tapping the xover is the only scary part. You have to block the xover so it wont move and hang on to the drill motor. Put a rag down the pipe so chips dont fall down the pipe. Vaccume the out and pull the rag. Somebody on here said that it was simple enough to do this. They never did it because if you are not carefull and get the hole to big you will hav to have a weld bung welded on. I hate people that say things that they know nothing about. :icon_evil:
If you want to go the GT 28 style I'll walk you through it.

Very nice, thanks a lot for the help. The mods dont seem bad at all. I actually just got ahold of a working tgp turbo that would get me around for now and cant beat the $. Im going to get my block and trans rebuilt in spring, so if i decide to get the t28, your writeup will be vital. Much appreciated, Ike
