Post by: intern8tion9l on January 31, 2007, 08:04:01 PM
i only have 1 question: how important is this part? ever since i swapped the motor in, i have not had one. i was looking at it now that its all apart again and am just curious as to whether or not its a bad thing to be missing

the downpipe itself adds some support, but it may not be enough.  i wouldn't want to run it that way but that's just me.  with no turbo support bracket the weight of the turbo will cause the flex bellows to be pulled downward, possibly leading to them being cracked/ruined sooner than later.  i've always used one, so i'm not sure if just the downpipe alone supporting the weight of the turbo is enough or not.

i got mine made at a local welding/fabrication shop for $40 (stainless steel too!).  i just brought the car in with the turbo and crossover pipe already removed, and explained what i needed them to do.  there are two already tapped bolt holes on top of the Getrag 282 that are perfect to use, so it should be a relatively easy bracket to make.
