I was talking with an old friend about turbochargers. I'll admit I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to sizing turbo's, but I mainly want to know what is the biggest turbocharger a near stock (the usual intake, exhaust, UDP add ons) 3.1MPFI can take on and what are some pros/cons to doing something like it? Will the engine even be tuneable and/or streetable? What kind of mods would you need to install without going standalone?
Are you asking what a urbocharged 3.1 out of a TGP can handle? or a standard MPFI 3.1 out of another w-body? According to Jeff M.'s big ass turbograndprix.com page, there's a big difference between the two. Link provided:

I would like to know both, but the TGP is more important to know. I would really like to know of any personal experience too, if anyone is willing to share that info.
For example, what would be the outcome using a T4 60-1 or HX35?
I'd talk to TGPilot, Invasion1, or kuntzie about that...out of my field of knowledge...good luck though!
From My knowledge the largest known "bolt-on" is the GT2871r but I believe kuntzie is going even bigger with a custom setup. I thinkif you're going to a GT2871r you'll wanna put bigger injectors and get it tuned. Tgpilot is the man to talk to about getting it tuned. Hopefully, one of them we chime in.
Injectors will be 24# (I think) might be 23#, using a RRFPR and the fuel pump is a walbro 255. So something from my example is too far fetched?
Largest bolt-on turbo for the LG5 is a GT3076.
So that is all you can bolt on and go for engine factory specs?
Now how about the other ones?
You'll want a M95HV oil pump
All you can bolt on? A 550HP rated turbo which I have personally seen feed a 608HP motor "is all?" Wow you have some serious plans for a 3.1 vin V or poor non forged piston N/A built 3x00 series motor! :icon_eek:
If you plan to run 23-24# injectors on a 6 cylinder car then you are capped at about 230-250HP. So putting a 550HP turbo on with 22-24# injectors is a bit of overkill don't you think? A RRFPR is not going to make up that big of a difference.
HP = (Injector Flow Rate x number of injectors x 0.8) / BSFC
The 0.8 = 80% duty cycle
BSFC = Brake Specific Fuel Consumption
BSFC = Pounds of fuel per hour / Brake Horse Power
The formula is an approximation to give a tuner an idea of the size of injectors he needs in a build. It is not an EXACT science!
I didnt mean to sound like that.. C'mon lol!
I meant it to put it... As if I were to goto a "pick your own" yard and happen to see something of my example sizes there would you see it possible to use it? There's a sale going on and I know where to pull it.
my new turbo is alot bigger then all the ones mentioned in this thread.. time will tell f its gunna be good my turbo is most equilievnt to a t-67, totaly hybrid turbo.
i was running the gt2871r lastseason and managed 302 whp and 409 wtq at under 3400 rpms for both with a rough tune and some fuel issues
also i was running 29# injectors and stock fuel pump, this year ill was gunna run 36# injectors but said screw it it bought some 42# ones, along with my HP walbro 255 pump.
My only engine mod (other then turbo and injectors) was 1.6 rockers...
this year ive done a hell of alot now, and should hit 400 whp on 10-12psi
Well then it's off to the yard to pull a part or two. I'll see how it goes when times comes to bolt it on.
