OK,I'm getting ready to spend some quality time with my TGP.I am installing a rebuilt motor with a 5-speed.I thought I had everything I needed but I don't.I am using a 94 caviler as my donor and the trans mounting brackets are different and will not work.I'm hoping this is not a sign of things to come.So like it says I need the bracket that bolts to the trans. Also if any of you guys know of anything else that wont work off the cavy(shifter,cables,etc..)let me know,I will need that stuff also. :icon_biggrin: Thanks...Adam

Are you saying you are using the 5 speed from a caviler? I'm not really up on the GM bodys. I was told only a W body trans will work in a TGP. Isn't the caviler another body? I just helped my neighbor swap in a 5 speed to his TGP and the mount bolted right up to the trans and the other end of the mount bolted right up to the cradle after we removed the autos bracket from the cradle. I hope this helps.

Correct- a Cavilier is NOT a W-body.
does this mean it sounds like he is trying to install a trans that won't fit in a TGP?

That's what it sounds like to me, but I could be wrong.
I was told by the junk yard it would work. They said all I would need is the bracket off of a w-body 5 speed. The bracket should bolt to the trans and then to the subframe.I'm no expert in swapping 5 speeds into w-body's so if anybodys been there done that and it wont work please let me know.I will have a little free time next week and I would like to get the engine/trans mounted so I can move onto other things.Thanks..Adam
it wont work unless you change the outter bellhousing

Not if it came from a V6 car. If it came from a V6 it should bolt up. But I thought Josh had said something about the slave cylinder being WAY different and that's why it wouldn't work on a w-body car.
Transmission came from a v6 car and will bolt right up my v6.Not to sure about the slave cylinder. The way GM mass produced things seems hard to belieave that they made a different trans for the j-body.Who knows,I never tried swapping a 5 speed in a w-body so its a learning experience for me.Somebody around here has been there and done that, please let me know if this is gonna work.Thanks...Adam

Talk to josh. Let me try and dig up his post where he found out about the j-body tranny.
Adam.
Sorry for clogging up your want thread. I've searched a bit and found out that the intermediate shaft, and axles are different between w's and J's. I couldn't find the post about the slave cylinders being different, but I'm positive they are. Good luck with the swap!
Slaves are not the same
Jbody's don't have the intermediate shaft so they have one really long driveshaft and one shorter one.
gearing is different between the 2 also i believe
i would really try to hold out for a W-body version and it will be a sure thing and better in the long run IMO
also there is no place for a lower trans mount on the j-body style trans.. hence why i said the OUTTER housing, i realize the inner housing is the same for all v6's. also yes the axles and pline count are different between the j's and w's
Thanks for the heads up guys!!Luckily the j/y donated this car. So I'm only out for the tranny overhaul kit and my time. The j/y I deal with does not have any 5 speed grand prixs so I half to do a little shopping for a donor car..Looks like no assembly next week but oh well life's a bitch.I'm gonna get drunk tonight and fuck my girl friend!! :icon_lol: later Adam
well if you have that trans in your hands look at this thread. The first post has a link to pictures of the 5 speed swap we just did to Jimmys TGP. This trans came from a W body. http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php?topic=3756.0 let us know what looks differant. I think there is only one picture with the tube on for the passenger axle. It is one where the trans is already bolted to the engine. But there is at least one other you can see the side of the trans where it goes.
Tim
Here are some pics of the caviler tranny. It's obvious it won't work.I should have done my homework before venturing into this. What a dumazz  I have found a grand prix donor car and will be back on track soon.Thanks..Adam
