Title: WTB: STB from Cutty Convert
Post by: grinders_18 on March 05, 2007, 02:04:27 PM
Like it says. I've been watching eBay, and when I wasn't sure if I wanted one, I let them go. When I was sure I wanted one, I always got outbid at the last second. Now they seem to have stopped showing up there. No one has posted one for sale in either forums, so I figured I'd put out a want ad. I'm sure someone out there has one they'd like to be rid of that fits the TGP? Thanks alot!

does it HAVE to be from a cutty 'vert?

Because there is another option for the front, and AWeb80 on the w-board is making RSTB right now if the group buy.

well verts are the only wbodies to get them STOCK because of the loss of structural integrety from the roof missing. and GM discontinued it

Well, like Prospeeder said, only the Cutty Verts had them, and I won't take one that requires drilling. It has to be the factory bolt on one...and it needs to be the front, not rear one...the rear STB won't work for what I've got going in there as it turns out.

What do you have going in the rear?

You can buy the Front STB bar from GMPP for the 2nd Gen Grand Prixs and buy the ZZPerformance FSTB Mounts for the 1st gen, that bolt directly to the strut bolts and away you go. :icon_biggrin:

Going in the rear I have an old TGP owner repairing his complete sound system box... covers every square inch of the trunk, and the only way to remove it is to take it apart...hence why he is repairing it lol. I don't want to install something that I cannot remove, if need every be. It's a nice box; two 12 sub openings, two amp mounts on each side, and he did it up right with a custom paintjob on it, with TURBO GRAND PRIX worked into the scheme...definately something to see.

Second, what's GMPP? Don't the second gen GP's require drilling to fit into our vehicle? As I said, I'm trying to go for the brace that looks the most stock on our cars, and the one that, to my eyes atleast, fits the most aesthetically, is the one from the Cutty Vert.

Came across this, thought I'd let you know:

And yes, the Gen II bars look hideous.  Looks like someone found a random metal bar that was just long enough to reach across the strut towers, and drilled it on.

$75???  Holy hell that's expensive for a STB.

hey, sorry I totally forgot about this thread, didnt mean to ignore you

I'm going to say that I've seen a first gen car with the 2nd Gen STB with the right brackets and it looks fine.  But to each his own.

GMPP = General Motors Performance Parts

They offer the front STBs (2nd Gen) and Rear trailing arms (Bolt-on) for the 1st Gen W-bodies, I think they offer some other stuff too, but I can't remember.

Take Care,
Mitch

The last one I sold on eBay went for $71.  I saw one go for $90.  They were $120 brand new, and aren't available from the dealer anymore, so $70 isn't too bad of a price for one.  I noticed he edited his post to change his asking price from $100 to $75, so he may be willing to go lower.  You can always try making him an offer.  :dunno:

I paid $60 shipped for mine, I searched Car-Part.com and found a place in NY that actually had one sitting there ready to go.  You could always try that route too.
