Title: Chip Funtionalities, Will they hurt your car
Post by: Andrew on June 11, 2002, 05:43:56 PM
I have a question about Jeff M's top gun and the like chips, first of all how well do they work? Does it really make your car that much faster? And how does it do it? If the factory ones cut your boost did they have a reason for doing it. I guess i just would like to  know these things before spending money or having to repair my car because of it. Thanks ahead of time.

Ok, personally< I do not have Jeff M's topgun chip, but its coming close up on my to do list.  Anyways, I have heard nothin but incrediable remarks about his chips, which ever one you get.  The reason for the boost cut in the stock chips is for warrenty purposes, if they upped it much more, people would try to up it even higher, therfore making the engines more subject to damage while still under warrenty.  As for how he makes them, all I know is he cracked the code for the stock chips, and now reprograms them to the topgun or whatever chips specs.  If I were you, I would get the chip.  I have not yet because I have had other things to do(Saving for college), but once I get the upgraded turbo, the chip wont be far behind.

I agree all i have heard about the chip is good, and all i have heard about Jeff M is praise worthy. I would not consider buying this car if it weren't for people like him. I guess i didn't mean that it would be the chips fault, i guess i was wondering if the little old 3.1L can handle it. From what i hear the 3.1L was not the most trustworthy engine ever made. Not too terrible because they are cheap to fix. Perhaps the TGP 3.1L is beefed up a bit, (or harder to fix)  i haven't heard one way or another. I would go out and buy the chip if i knew that the engine could take the extra boost. I think what is does besides fix ideling problems and such (which would be nice) is let the turbo pump out as much boost as it wants. Anyways, will this extra boost now and then when you floor it hurt anything? Thanks Again,

Title: I drive with my foot on the floor all the time!!!

 All of my TGP's are Top Gun chipped, and I drive them harder then just about anyone here in the Pacific Northwest. As I'm sure anyone of a half dozen TGP owners will attest to! :D  One of my cars is at the race track almost every weekend, and my 14.41 black 90 TGP is a definite head turner when I pop is hood to let it cool down between runs (especially after having beaten several V-8's) And NO trouble what so ever.
