I just had a Transmission Flush today, my 74k fluid was starting to get dark, but smelled fine and all. I took it in, 113$ for a full flush and filter change, cleaned the pan. The car shifts WAY smoother, and faster, and goes into gears quicker. I could imagin it would get worse and worse till it did some real damage to the transmission from neglect. So at least get a pan and filter change ever 30-50k. For you people who say the flushes will kill it. They dont use a PUMP or anything to force fluid, they hook lines to each end of the cooler, and they turn the car on, the old fluids pumped into one tank, and the new is sucked in using the transmissions pump, untill it all comes out clean. Very effective, they say only 1/3 of the fluid is actually changed with just a pan drop. All while they asked me questions and complemented me on my cool car, hehe.
They actually did the filter?
I remember long ago when I had someone flush my tranny at some quick lube shit hole and the guy tried to tell me the fluid change would clean the filter also! :icon_rolleyes: I asked how that was possible considering all they did was plug into the system at the cooling lines and it was replenished as the car was running how would it clean the filter. He said it was back flushing! How is it backflushing if it is going in via the power of the car running in the cooling lines??!!!??? God I love $8.75/hr tech guys who think they know what they are talking about! :icon_rolleyes:
I'm flushing mine out, changing the filter out this spring even though my tranny only has 14,000 miles on it.... that is once I finally get to pull it out of my garage for the year. I miss driving it!
EDIT: 4,000th topic!!
I had mine done...definately beter for the tranny to get it flushed than to keep the old stuff in.
yea, they did a full flush and then dropped the pan, cleaned the whole pan and magnet, told me there were little to no shavings on the magnet, and changed the filter with a purolator one. then filled it up and ran it, made sure everything was ok. and off i went, even got an 8$ coupon for the carwash. This was the Texaco/Havoline Lube place also.
