Title: Fast and Furious Intercooler Relocate
Post by: Mr. Mod Man on October 12, 2002, 06:20:20 PM
Has anybody ever taken out their intercooler and relocated it in front of their radiator? It makes sense because then you could have room to fit a heat shielded monster K/N that would get cold air.

I just used the rubber turbo inlet hose(stock) and part of my original rear strut dust sleeve as a reducer from the 3" mondo K/N inlet to a 2 1/2" reducer.   Better would be a 90 degree bend in 2 1/2" pipe. A heat/water shield would be necessary and K/N probably makes one but could be easily fabbed with aluminum, flashing, plastic etc.

You could use flexible 2 1/2" exhaust tube for the IC hose or prebent if you got the time and a fat wallet.

The intercooler sits next to the Radiator with the stock cofiguration... 8)

I'm actually shitcanning the idea because I pulled the intercooler and seen there was the AC condenser in the way. I didnt know that thing goes all the way across the front and leaves no room for the pipes. The only way is if you go under the condenser, get a smaller condenser, or remove the condenser. But if I went through all that, I would break down and buy a high flow through ic and put it right behind the honeycombs.

acctually if you got an AC condensor form a J body they are smaller and then mount that to the Left and then Run the pipes where the old IC was....IM going to Try that next Summer...I just need to find a good cheaper IC that is larger.

The new, new ones have angled fins that channel oncoming air through to the radiator. They are even optimized for cooling by packing more fins on the bottom tubes and less dense fins on the top for less turbulence.
