Is that black crap on the underside of the hood important. I just honestly hate the way it looks and was gonna take it off and repaint the underside of the hood as it is not fully painted under there.
It depends on how much heat you want to keep away from the hood.
A lot of people have removed it with no noticed ill side effects, but it would over time probably harm the paint on the hood more than usual.
While it might keep some heat away from the hood, it's actually there from acoustical purposes according to everything I've read. It probably isn't a bad idea to keep it around on a turbocharged car though. On my '93 Grand Prix, I removed the insulation three years ago and haven't had any issues(the underside of my aftermarket hood is painted and that paint underneath still looks perfect). Old picture, but it still looks the same. ;) (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/mfewtrail/1993%20Grand%20Prix%20SE/SEengine_may2005.jpg)
I'd like to get something like this done when my insulator becomes torn up...maybe with a large version of our TGP badges embroidered in the center.

EDIT: The hood insulator part number is posted in the "common part numbers" thread in the General section by the way.
The dealer still had the insulation about year ago. $35-45. It is one big box.

Ya, I figured it was probably to save the pain on the hood, I guess I will suck it up and leave it there, it just pisses me off how ugly it is, that's all...lol
Jud is right. Its cheap. I bought one for the Beretta not too long ago. I was thingking of painting a logo on it like the OEs do.
