Title: T28 question
Post by: 350TPI on April 27, 2007, 10:18:41 AM
I just bought a garrett T28 but i noticed too late that somethings a bit different than our stock t25s.The piece i am referring to is the lip (i dont know what its called)that you would put the K&N filter on.The one i bought doesnt have this lip but has 2 holes that looks like you could bolt one on.Does anyone know what this is called and where i can get one?Does my description of this LIP even make any sense?Hopefully this isnt a big deal but i am a bit worried i may have just bought a turbo i cant use. Thanks, chris

I understand what you're saying, as when I was checking out eBay for a new one a while back, thats pretty much all I saw...I'm not 100% on what you can do, but I wouldn't see why you wouldn't either try and fit the filter over it, or find an adapter for it...Maybe it'd be a great idea for the start of a Ram Air system? :icon_wink: It's a set back, yes...but it's also an opportunity.

Hopefully someone else can chime in on what to do...maybe you could grind it off?

I did a write up on this for somebody else who is putting the Nissan style on there tgp. The ones that I saw on ebay had the piece supplied that bolted to where the air filter goes. The outlet to the intercooler is only about 15 from the Nissan dealer, although the front piece as I remember was in the 85 to 100 range. :icon_frown:

I'll see if I can find the write up. I think I have some pictures of what you have to mod, somewhere. Damn where is this stuff. I guess I am getting old and forgetting where I put stuff.

You might try searching. If you come up empty let me know.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha    Another poor miss informed person.

Don't know where that idot got his info but you can bet he never looked at the specs on the two turbos. :dunce:

All I can tell you is that you better get some sticky slicks and a AAA card for towing. Oh one more thing you might want to pick up a spare set of pistons cause it will eat them as fast as you can put them in unless your are very carfull. Now try that with the 25.

When you get it in and running you will give up sex because you will get off every time you punch it.

Enjoy

I hope you didn't buy a Nissan T-28, because I'm pretty sure it's a downgrade from our stock T-25...

anyway, look on ebay, those pieces are around, i see them all the time.

QuoteI don't know for sure, maybe I'm confused, but that's what I thought.

And I was going by something I thought I read off this forum long ago. Perhaps it was just the fact that it wasn't considered a decent upgrade considering the gain/price.

Gutless,i didnt meant to offend but what you said obviously worried me.I needed to find out if i just made a big mistake. Also,i paid less than $200 for this turbo.

I guess that's all I have to base it off, though I could've sworn there was more discussion on this, but I can't find anything in my favor.

Thinking back now I was probably thinking of how the Silvia's T-25 was smaller than ours, not the Skyline's T-28.

Jud,i really hope you are WAY over exaggerating about the carnage the T28 will bring.I have 24LB injectors from a mach 1 (will 24LBers be enough?)and i plan on getting a chip from kenny that will be able to properly run the bigger turbo and injectors. Will that be enough to not kill the motor? Also jud i sent you a PM yesterday about the T28 i bought.

350TPI, I'm running a new T28 Hybrid in my TGP...thus far, no problems. Although I have cut back on my NASCAR driving, so it very well may be a risk. Just take care with it, drive it decent, atleast for the first few hundred miles...you should be fine as long as you don't intend to take on Vipers and Vettes lol

Grinders, what all did you upgrade?Injectors, fuel pump, chip? How much faster does it feel?

You can kill the motor with a T25. You just need to make sure you have the right tune (and that your fuel pump doesn't shut off under boost).

Upgrade? COMPLETE Tuneup, Ford C302 Yellow Top Injectors, replacement fuel pump just over a year ago (actually just before I bought it), Invasion1 Performance Chip...so much upgraded.

As for the turbo:
- 360 degree thrust bearing to replace the 270 degree
- BIG Stage 3 Compressor and Turbine Wheels
- Ported and Polished

If you wanna read about whats all been done, read back a few pages in the What Have You Done Lately thread; I have it all listed. Any other questions, just send me a PM and I'll be more than happy to answer! :icon_wink:

You can kill the motor with a T25. You just need to make sure you have the right tune (and that your fuel pump doesn't shut off under boost).

The fact is that your computer turns off the fuel with overboost. No fuel no detonation no nothing. The motor just wont run so therefore no danger.

Never was able to hurt the motor even with the WG wired closed. I don't believe that the stock turbo has enough to hurt the motor. Lets face it GM wouldn't have put a turbo on there that would hurt the motor when the WG failed  even if fuel cut was eliminated.

Just My experience, tried it several different times and just went slower. Even with diffferent spring on the WG to produce boost up to 16# ( high as it would go) never hurt a thing.  And thats with elimating fuel cut.

If somebody has an experience hurting there motor I would like to know about it. I tried and couldn't do it.

Just so you guys know the stock T25 is a puppy. Reason, after about 8 to 10 # it's just a hot air pump beating the shit out of the air and there is no more #'s per minuet. It runs out of gas.

Josh had a "hurt" engine that he got from a junkyard TSTE, I think it had a piston w/ a hole burned in it.

Sounds like the cylinder leaned out for some reason. That was the problem I had, just couldn't feed the cylinders evenly with enough fuel. Don't know why for sure but the 3400 TE stopped it. Im guessing air distribution cause thats all that really changed.
